God

The Creator, Sustainer, and Lord of All Things

Who Is God?

God is the eternal, all-powerful, all-knowing, and all-loving Creator of Heaven and earth.

He is not one being among many. God is the source of all existence itself.

Everything that exists depends upon Him for its existence and continued life.

“I am who am.” — Exodus 3:14

God Reveals Himself

God is not distant or unknowable.

Throughout history, He revealed Himself through creation, the prophets, Sacred Scripture, and ultimately through His Son, Jesus Christ.

Through divine revelation, humanity can know who God is and His plan for salvation.

The Holy Trinity

The central mystery of the Christian faith is that God is one divine nature in three divine Persons:

  • God the Father
  • God the Son
  • God the Holy Ghost

The three Persons are distinct, yet they are one God.

Christians do not worship three gods but one God in three Persons.

God the Creator

God freely created the universe out of nothing.

Everything visible and invisible exists because He willed it into being.

Creation reflects God’s wisdom, goodness, beauty, and power.

Angels

Angels are purely spiritual beings created by God.

They worship and serve Him and assist in carrying out His will.

Sacred Scripture frequently describes angels as God’s messengers and servants.

God’s Providence

God not only created the world but continues to sustain and govern it.

This loving guidance is called Divine Providence.

God works through history, human freedom, and even suffering to bring about His good purposes.

Why Learning About God Matters

Every other Catholic teaching begins with God.

To understand creation, salvation, the Church, prayer, morality, and eternal life, we must first understand who God is.

The purpose of human life is to know, love, and serve God and to be united with Him forever.
