The Divine Praises respond to blasphemy and irreverence with a deliberate act of blessing. They are commonly prayed during Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament and can also be used privately.
The Prayer
Blessed be God. Blessed be His holy name. Blessed be Jesus Christ, true God and true man.
Blessed be the name of Jesus. Blessed be His most Sacred Heart. Blessed be His most Precious Blood.
Blessed be Jesus in the most holy Sacrament of the Altar. Blessed be the Holy Spirit, the Paraclete.
Blessed be the great Mother of God, Mary most holy. Blessed be her holy and Immaculate Conception. Blessed be her glorious Assumption. Blessed be the name of Mary, Virgin and Mother.
Blessed be Saint Joseph, her most chaste spouse. Blessed be God in His angels and in His saints. Amen.
Important Catholic Boundary
The Eucharist is the sacramental presence of Christ and the center of Catholic adoration. Devotional prayers should support—not compete with—the sacred liturgy and the reverent silence of adoration.
What Reparation Means
Reparation is a loving response to sin: praising where God is insulted, adoring where He is ignored, and offering one’s life in union with Christ. It is not an attempt to earn God’s love or punish oneself.
Each blessing redirects attention from evil to the goodness, holiness, and saving work of God.
During Eucharistic Adoration
- Begin with silent awareness of Christ’s presence.
- Read the praises slowly, pausing after each line.
- Offer one intention of reparation and one act of thanksgiving.
- End by asking for grace to live what you have praised.
