Seeing the Story of Salvation From Creation to Christ

What Is the Bible Timeline?

The Bible timeline is the story of God’s saving plan unfolding through history.

Scripture is not a random collection of religious books. It tells one unified story: God creates, humanity falls, God forms a covenant people, Christ comes to save, and the Church carries His mission to the world.

“In the beginning God created heaven, and earth.” — Genesis 1:1

1. Creation

The Bible begins with God creating all things visible and invisible.

Human beings are created in the image of God and called to communion with Him.

Creation reveals God’s goodness, wisdom, power, and love.

2. The Fall

Adam and Eve disobeyed God, and sin entered the world.

This first sin wounded human nature and brought suffering, death, and separation from God.

Yet even after the Fall, God promised hope and began His plan of salvation.

3. Noah and the Flood

As sin spread through the world, God preserved Noah and his family through the flood.

God made a covenant with Noah, promising never again to destroy the earth by flood.

Noah’s ark points forward to salvation and new creation.

4. Abraham and the Covenant

God called Abraham and promised to make him the father of a great nation.

Through Abraham’s descendants, all nations would be blessed.

This covenant begins the story of Israel and prepares for Jesus Christ.

5. Moses and the Exodus

God delivered Israel from slavery in Egypt through Moses.

The Exodus is one of the central saving events of the Old Testament.

God gave Israel the Law and formed them as His covenant people.

6. The Promised Land

After the Exodus and years in the wilderness, Israel entered the Promised Land.

God remained faithful to His covenant promises, even when His people struggled with sin and disobedience.

7. The Kingdom of Israel

Israel became a kingdom under Saul, David, and Solomon.

God made a covenant with David, promising that his kingdom would endure.

This promise points forward to Jesus Christ, the Son of David and eternal King.

8. The Prophets

The prophets called Israel back to covenant faithfulness.

They warned against sin, idolatry, and injustice.

They also announced hope: a Messiah, a new covenant, and the restoration of God’s people.

9. Exile and Return

Because of Israel’s unfaithfulness, the people experienced exile.

Yet God did not abandon them.

A remnant returned, the Temple was rebuilt, and hope for the Messiah continued.

10. Jesus Christ

The entire Old Testament prepares for Jesus Christ.

In Him, God’s promises are fulfilled.

Jesus is the new Adam, the true Son of David, the Lamb of God, the new Moses, the High Priest, and the Savior of the world.

“And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us.” — John 1:14

11. The Church

After His Resurrection and Ascension, Jesus sent the Holy Ghost at Pentecost.

The Church began proclaiming the Gospel to all nations.

The mission of Christ continues through the Church until He comes again.

12. The Last Things

The Bible ends by looking toward the fulfillment of God’s plan.

Christ will come again, the dead will rise, judgment will occur, and God will bring about the new heaven and new earth.

Salvation history ends in eternal communion with God.
