What is auditing?
Scientology describes auditing as one-to-one spiritual counseling intended to locate and address spiritual distress, sometimes assisted by an E-Meter. Its specific theory and promised outcomes should be evaluated separately from whether a participant reports feeling heard.

What does an E-Meter actually measure?
Official Scientology material describes a small electrical current and needle changes while the participant holds electrodes, and says the device itself does nothing and is not intended to diagnose, treat, or prevent disease. Interpretation of those changes is an additional claim.

Are engrams scientifically established as described in Dianetics?
Painful experiences can affect people, but that broad truth does not establish the specific Dianetics model of exact unconscious recordings, mental mass, or the claimed auditing mechanism. Empirical claims require independent, reproducible evidence.
