What Is Lectio Divina?

Lectio Divina is an ancient Christian method of prayerfully reading Sacred Scripture.

The phrase Lectio Divina means “Divine Reading.”

Rather than reading the Bible simply to gain information, Lectio Divina helps us encounter God, listen to His voice, and grow in friendship with Him.

A Simple Example

Imagine reading John 14:27:

“Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you.”

You might slowly reflect on Christ’s promise of peace.

You may bring your worries to Him in prayer and then spend time quietly resting in His presence.

This is the heart of Lectio Divina.
