Psalms 47

A psalm of a canticle, for the sons of Core, on the second day of the week.

Psalmus cantici. Filiis Core, secunda sabbati.

ψαλμὸς ᾠδῆς τοῖς υἱοῖς Κορε δευτέρᾳ σαββάτου

Great is the Lord, and exceedingly to be praised in the city of our God, in his holy mountain.

Magnus Dominus et laudabilis nimis, in civitate Dei nostri, in monte sancto ejus.

μέγας κύριος καὶ αἰνετὸς σφόδρα ἐν πόλει τοῦ θεοῦ ἡμῶν ὄρει ἁγίῳ αὐτοῦ

With the joy of the whole earth is mount Sion founded, on the sides of the north, the city of the great king.

Fundatur exsultatione universæ terræ mons Sion; latera aquilonis, civitas regis magni.

εὖ ῥιζῶν ἀγαλλιάματι πάσης τῆς γῆς ὄρη Σιων τὰ πλευρὰ τοῦ βορρᾶ ἡ πόλις τοῦ βασιλέως τοῦ μεγάλου

In her houses shall God be known, when he shall protect her.

Deus in domibus ejus cognoscetur cum suscipiet eam.

ὁ θεὸς ἐν ταῖς βάρεσιν αὐτῆς γινώσκεται ὅταν ἀντιλαμβάνηται αὐτῆς

For behold the kings of the earth assembled themselves: they gathered together.

Quoniam ecce reges terræ congregati sunt; convenerunt in unum.

ὅτι ἰδοὺ οἱ βασιλεῖς συνήχθησαν ἤλθοσαν ἐπὶ τὸ αὐτό

So they saw, and they wondered, they were troubled, they were moved:

Ipsi videntes, sic admirati sunt, conturbati sunt, commoti sunt.

αὐτοὶ ἰδόντες οὕτως ἐθαύμασαν ἐταράχθησαν ἐσαλεύθησαν

Trembling took hold of them. There were pains as of a woman in labour.

Tremor apprehendit eos; ibi dolores ut parturientis:

τρόμος ἐπελάβετο αὐτῶν ἐκεῖ ὠδῖνες ὡς τικτούσης

With a vehement wind thou shalt break in pieces the ships of Tharsis.

in spiritu vehementi conteres naves Tharsis.

ἐν πνεύματι βιαίῳ συντρίψεις πλοῖα Θαρσις

As we have heard, so have we seen, in the city of the Lord of hosts, in the city of our God: God hath founded it for ever.

Sicut audivimus, sic vidimus, in civitate Domini virtutum, in civitate Dei nostri : Deus fundavit eam in æternum.

καθάπερ ἠκούσαμεν οὕτως εἴδομεν ἐν πόλει κυρίου τῶν δυνάμεων ἐν πόλει τοῦ θεοῦ ἡμῶν ὁ θεὸς ἐθεμελίωσεν αὐτὴν εἰς τὸν αἰῶνα διάψαλμα

We have received thy mercy, O God, in the midst of thy temple.

Suscepimus, Deus, misericordiam tuam in medio templi tui.

ὑπελάβομεν ὁ θεός τὸ ἔλεός σου ἐν μέσῳ τοῦ ναοῦ σου

According to thy name, O God, so also is thy praise unto the ends of the earth: thy right hand is full of justice.

Secundum nomen tuum, Deus, sic et laus tua in fines terræ; justitia plena est dextera tua.

κατὰ τὸ ὄνομά σου ὁ θεός οὕτως καὶ ἡ αἴνεσίς σου ἐπὶ τὰ πέρατα τῆς γῆς δικαιοσύνης πλήρης ἡ δεξιά σου

Let mount Sion rejoice, and the daughters of Juda be glad; because of thy judgments, O Lord.

Lætetur mons Sion, et exsultent filiæ Judæ, propter judicia tua, Domine.

εὐφρανθήτω τὸ ὄρος Σιων ἀγαλλιάσθωσαν αἱ θυγατέρες τῆς Ιουδαίας ἕνεκεν τῶν κριμάτων σου κύριε

Surround Sion, and encompass her: tell lye in her towers.

Circumdate Sion, et complectimini eam; narrate in turribus ejus.

κυκλώσατε Σιων καὶ περιλάβετε αὐτήν διηγήσασθε ἐν τοῖς πύργοις αὐτῆς

Set your hearts on her strength; and distribute her houses, that ye may relate it in another generation.

Ponite corda vestra in virtute ejus, et distribuite domos ejus, ut enarretis in progenie altera.

θέσθε τὰς καρδίας ὑμῶν εἰς τὴν δύναμιν αὐτῆς καὶ καταδιέλεσθε τὰς βάρεις αὐτῆς ὅπως ἂν διηγήσησθε εἰς γενεὰν ἑτέραν

For this is God, our God unto eternity, and for ever and ever: he shall rule us for evermore.

Quoniam hic est Deus, Deus noster in æternum, et in sæculum sæculi : ipse reget nos in sæcula.

ὅτι οὗτός ἐστιν ὁ θεὸς ὁ θεὸς ἡμῶν εἰς τὸν αἰῶνα καὶ εἰς τὸν αἰῶνα τοῦ αἰῶνος αὐτὸς ποιμανεῖ ἡμᾶς εἰς τοὺς αἰῶνας
