Psalms 37

A psalm for David, for a remembrance of the sabbath.

Psalmus David, in rememorationem de sabbato.

ψαλμὸς τῷ Δαυιδ εἰς ἀνάμνησιν περὶ σαββάτου

Rebuke me not, O Lord, in thy indignation; nor chastise me in thy wrath.

Domine, ne in furore tuo arguas me, neque in ira tua corripias me:

κύριε μὴ τῷ θυμῷ σου ἐλέγξῃς με μηδὲ τῇ ὀργῇ σου παιδεύσῃς με

For thy arrows are fastened in me: and thy hand hath been strong upon me.

quoniam sagittæ tuæ infixæ sunt mihi, et confirmasti super me manum tuam.

ὅτι τὰ βέλη σου ἐνεπάγησάν μοι καὶ ἐπεστήρισας ἐπ' ἐμὲ τὴν χεῖρά σου

There is no health in my flesh, because of thy wrath: there is no peace for my bones, because of my sins.

Non est sanitas in carne mea, a facie iræ tuæ; non est pax ossibus meis, a facie peccatorum meorum:

οὐκ ἔστιν ἴασις ἐν τῇ σαρκί μου ἀπὸ προσώπου τῆς ὀργῆς σου οὐκ ἔστιν εἰρήνη τοῖς ὀστέοις μου ἀπὸ προσώπου τῶν ἁμαρτιῶν μου

For my iniquities are gone over my head: and as a heavy burden are become heavy upon me.

quoniam iniquitates meæ supergressæ sunt caput meum, et sicut onus grave gravatæ sunt super me.

ὅτι αἱ ἀνομίαι μου ὑπερῆραν τὴν κεφαλήν μου ὡσεὶ φορτίον βαρὺ ἐβαρύνθησαν ἐπ' ἐμέ

My sores are putrefied and corrupted, because of my foolishness.

Putruerunt et corruptæ sunt cicatrices meæ, a facie insipientiæ meæ.

προσώζεσαν καὶ ἐσάπησαν οἱ μώλωπές μου ἀπὸ προσώπου τῆς ἀφροσύνης μου

I am become miserable, and am bowed down even to the end: I walked sorrowful all the day long.

Miser factus sum et curvatus sum usque in finem; tota die contristatus ingrediebar.

ἐταλαιπώρησα καὶ κατεκάμφθην ἕως τέλους ὅλην τὴν ἡμέραν σκυθρωπάζων ἐπορευόμην

For my loins are filled with illusions; and there is no health in my flesh.

Quoniam lumbi mei impleti sunt illusionibus, et non est sanitas in carne mea.

ὅτι αἱ ψύαι μου ἐπλήσθησαν ἐμπαιγμῶν καὶ οὐκ ἔστιν ἴασις ἐν τῇ σαρκί μου

I am afflicted and humbled exceedingly: I roared with the groaning of my heart.

Afflictus sum, et humiliatus sum nimis; rugiebam a gemitu cordis mei.

ἐκακώθην καὶ ἐταπεινώθην ἕως σφόδρα ὠρυόμην ἀπὸ στεναγμοῦ τῆς καρδίας μου

Lord, all my desire is before thee, and my groaning is not hidden from thee.

Domine, ante te omne desiderium meum, et gemitus meus a te non est absconditus.

κύριε ἐναντίον σου πᾶσα ἡ ἐπιθυμία μου καὶ ὁ στεναγμός μου ἀπὸ σοῦ οὐκ ἐκρύβη

My heart is troubled, my strength hath left me, and the light of my eyes itself is not with me.

Cor meum conturbatum est; dereliquit me virtus mea, et lumen oculorum meorum, et ipsum non est mecum.

ἡ καρδία μου ἐταράχθη ἐγκατέλιπέν με ἡ ἰσχύς μου καὶ τὸ φῶς τῶν ὀφθαλμῶν μου καὶ αὐτὸ οὐκ ἔστιν μετ' ἐμοῦ

My friends and my neighbours have drawn near, and stood against me. And they that were near me stood afar off:

Amici mei et proximi mei adversum me appropinquaverunt, et steterunt; et qui juxta me erant, de longe steterunt : et vim faciebant qui quærebant animam meam.

οἱ φίλοι μου καὶ οἱ πλησίον μου ἐξ ἐναντίας μου ἤγγισαν καὶ ἔστησαν καὶ οἱ ἔγγιστά μου ἀπὸ μακρόθεν ἔστησαν

And they that sought my soul used violence. And they that sought evils to me spoke vain things, and studied deceits all the day long.

Et qui inquirebant mala mihi, locuti sunt vanitates, et dolos tota die meditabantur.

καὶ ἐξεβιάσαντο οἱ ζητοῦντες τὴν ψυχήν μου καὶ οἱ ζητοῦντες τὰ κακά μοι ἐλάλησαν ματαιότητας καὶ δολιότητας ὅλην τὴν ἡμέραν ἐμελέτησαν

But I, as a deaf man, heard not: and as a dumb man not opening his mouth.

Ego autem, tamquam surdus, non audiebam; et sicut mutus non aperiens os suum.

ἐγὼ δὲ ὡσεὶ κωφὸς οὐκ ἤκουον καὶ ὡσεὶ ἄλαλος οὐκ ἀνοίγων τὸ στόμα αὐτοῦ

And I became as a man that heareth not: and that hath no reproofs in his mouth.

Et factus sum sicut homo non audiens, et non habens in ore suo redargutiones.

καὶ ἐγενόμην ὡσεὶ ἄνθρωπος οὐκ ἀκούων καὶ οὐκ ἔχων ἐν τῷ στόματι αὐτοῦ ἐλεγμούς

For in thee, O Lord, have I hoped: thou wilt hear me, O Lord my God.

Quoniam in te, Domine, speravi; tu exaudies me, Domine Deus meus.

ὅτι ἐπὶ σοί κύριε ἤλπισα σὺ εἰσακούσῃ κύριε ὁ θεός μου

For I said: Lest at any time my enemies rejoice over me: and whilst my feet are moved, they speak great things against me.

Quia dixi : Nequando supergaudeant mihi inimici mei; et dum commoventur pedes mei, super me magna locuti sunt.

ὅτι εἶπα μήποτε ἐπιχαρῶσίν μοι οἱ ἐχθροί μου καὶ ἐν τῷ σαλευθῆναι πόδας μου ἐπ' ἐμὲ ἐμεγαλορρημόνησαν

For I am ready for scourges: and my sorrow is continually before me.

Quoniam ego in flagella paratus sum, et dolor meus in conspectu meo semper.

ὅτι ἐγὼ εἰς μάστιγας ἕτοιμος καὶ ἡ ἀλγηδών μου ἐνώπιόν μου διὰ παντός

For I will declare my iniquity: and I will think for my sin.

Quoniam iniquitatem meam annuntiabo, et cogitabo pro peccato meo.

ὅτι τὴν ἀνομίαν μου ἐγὼ ἀναγγελῶ καὶ μεριμνήσω ὑπὲρ τῆς ἁμαρτίας μου

But my enemies live, and are stronger than I: and they that hate me wrongfully are multiplied.

Inimici autem mei vivunt, et confirmati sunt super me : et multiplicati sunt qui oderunt me inique.

οἱ δὲ ἐχθροί μου ζῶσιν καὶ κεκραταίωνται ὑπὲρ ἐμέ καὶ ἐπληθύνθησαν οἱ μισοῦντές με ἀδίκως

They that render evil for good, have detracted me, because I followed goodness.

Qui retribuunt mala pro bonis detrahebant mihi, quoniam sequebar bonitatem.

οἱ ἀνταποδιδόντες κακὰ ἀντὶ ἀγαθῶν ἐνδιέβαλλόν με ἐπεὶ κατεδίωκον δικαιοσύνην καὶ ἀπέρριψάν με τὸν ἀγαπητὸν ὡσεὶ νεκρὸν ἐβδελυγμένον

For sake me not, O Lord my God: do not thou depart from me.

Ne derelinquas me, Domine Deus meus; ne discesseris a me.

μὴ ἐγκαταλίπῃς με κύριε ὁ θεός μου μὴ ἀποστῇς ἀπ' ἐμοῦ

Attend unto my help, O Lord, the God of my salvation.

Intende in adjutorium meum, Domine Deus salutis meæ.

πρόσχες εἰς τὴν βοήθειάν μου κύριε τῆς σωτηρίας μου
