1

Laudate nomen Domini; laudate, servi, Dominum:

αλληλουια αἰνεῖτε τὸ ὄνομα κυρίου αἰνεῖτε δοῦλοι κύριον

You that stand in the house of the Lord, in the courts of the house of our God.

qui statis in domo Domini, in atriis domus Dei nostri.

οἱ ἑστῶτες ἐν οἴκῳ κυρίου ἐν αὐλαῖς οἴκου θεοῦ ἡμῶν

Praise ye the Lord, for the Lord is good: sing ye to his name, for it is sweet.

Laudate Dominum, quia bonus Dominus; psallite nomini ejus, quoniam suave.

αἰνεῖτε τὸν κύριον ὅτι ἀγαθὸς κύριος ψάλατε τῷ ὀνόματι αὐτοῦ ὅτι καλόν

For the Lord hath chosen Jacob unto himself: Israel for his own possession.

Quoniam Jacob elegit sibi Dominus; Israël in possessionem sibi.

ὅτι τὸν Ιακωβ ἐξελέξατο ἑαυτῷ ὁ κύριος Ισραηλ εἰς περιουσιασμὸν αὐτοῦ

For I have known that the Lord is great, and our God is above all gods.

Quia ego cognovi quod magnus est Dominus, et Deus noster præ omnibus diis.

ὅτι ἐγὼ ἔγνων ὅτι μέγας κύριος καὶ ὁ κύριος ἡμῶν παρὰ πάντας τοὺς θεούς

Whatsoever the Lord pleased he hath done, in heaven, in earth, in the sea, and in all the deeps.

Omnia quæcumque voluit Dominus fecit, in cælo, in terra, in mari et in omnibus abyssis.

πάντα ὅσα ἠθέλησεν ὁ κύριος ἐποίησεν ἐν τῷ οὐρανῷ καὶ ἐν τῇ γῇ ἐν ταῖς θαλάσσαις καὶ ἐν πάσαις ταῖς ἀβύσσοις

He bringeth up clouds from the end of the earth: he hath made lightnings for the rain. He bringeth forth winds out of his stores:

Educens nubes ab extremo terræ, fulgura in pluviam fecit; qui producit ventos de thesauris suis.

ἀνάγων νεφέλας ἐξ ἐσχάτου τῆς γῆς ἀστραπὰς εἰς ὑετὸν ἐποίησεν ὁ ἐξάγων ἀνέμους ἐκ θησαυρῶν αὐτοῦ

He slew the firstborn of Egypt from man even unto beast.

Qui percussit primogenita Ægypti, ab homine usque ad pecus.

ὃς ἐπάταξεν τὰ πρωτότοκα Αἰγύπτου ἀπὸ ἀνθρώπου ἕως κτήνους

He sent forth signs and wonders in the midst of thee, O Egypt: upon Pharao, and upon all his servants.

Et misit signa et prodigia in medio tui, Ægypte : in Pharaonem, et in omnes servos ejus.

ἐξαπέστειλεν σημεῖα καὶ τέρατα ἐν μέσῳ σου Αἴγυπτε ἐν Φαραω καὶ ἐν πᾶσι τοῖς δούλοις αὐτοῦ

He smote many nations, and slew mighty kings:

Qui percussit gentes multas, et occidit reges fortes:

ὃς ἐπάταξεν ἔθνη πολλὰ καὶ ἀπέκτεινεν βασιλεῖς κραταιούς

Sehon king of the Amorrhites, and Og king of Basan, and all the kingdoms of Chanaan.

Sehon, regem Amorrhæorum, et Og, regem Basan, et omnia regna Chanaan:

τὸν Σηων βασιλέα τῶν Αμορραίων καὶ τὸν Ωγ βασιλέα τῆς Βασαν καὶ πάσας τὰς βασιλείας Χανααν

And gave their land for an inheritance, for an inheritance to his people Israel.

et dedit terram eorum hæreditatem, hæreditatem Israël populo suo.

καὶ ἔδωκεν τὴν γῆν αὐτῶν κληρονομίαν κληρονομίαν Ισραηλ λαῷ αὐτοῦ

Thy name, O Lord, is for ever: thy memorial, O Lord, unto all generations.

Domine, nomen tuum in æternum; Domine, memoriale tuum in generationem et generationem.

κύριε τὸ ὄνομά σου εἰς τὸν αἰῶνα κύριε τὸ μνημόσυνόν σου εἰς γενεὰν καὶ γενεάν

For the Lord will judge his people, and will be entreated in favour of his servants.

Quia judicabit Dominus populum suum, et in servis suis deprecabitur.

ὅτι κρινεῖ κύριος τὸν λαὸν αὐτοῦ καὶ ἐπὶ τοῖς δούλοις αὐτοῦ παρακληθήσεται

The idols of the Gentiles are silver and gold, the works of men’s hands.

Simulacra gentium argentum et aurum, opera manuum hominum.

τὰ εἴδωλα τῶν ἐθνῶν ἀργύριον καὶ χρυσίον ἔργα χειρῶν ἀνθρώπων

They have a mouth, but they speak not: they have eyes, but they see not.

Os habent, et non loquentur; oculos habent, et non videbunt.

στόμα ἔχουσιν καὶ οὐ λαλήσουσιν ὀφθαλμοὺς ἔχουσιν καὶ οὐκ ὄψονται

17

They have ears, but they hear not: neither is there any breath in their mouths.

Aures habent, et non audient; neque enim est spiritus in ore ipsorum.

ὦτα ἔχουσιν καὶ οὐκ ἐνωτισθήσονται ῥῖνας ἔχουσιν καὶ οὐκ ὀσφρανθήσονται χεῖρας ἔχουσιν καὶ οὐ ψηλαφήσουσιν πόδας ἔχουσιν καὶ οὐ περιπατήσουσιν οὐ φωνήσουσιν ἐν τῷ λάρυγγι αὐτῶν οὐδὲ γάρ ἐστιν πνεῦμα ἐν τῷ στόματι αὐτῶν

Let them that make them be like to them: and every one that trusteth in them.

Similes illis fiant qui faciunt ea, et omnes qui confidunt in eis.

ὅμοιοι αὐτοῖς γένοιντο οἱ ποιοῦντες αὐτὰ καὶ πάντες οἱ πεποιθότες ἐπ' αὐτοῖς

Bless the Lord, O house of Israel: bless the Lord, O house of Aaron.

Domus Israël, benedicite Domino; domus Aaron, benedicite Domino.

οἶκος Ισραηλ εὐλογήσατε τὸν κύριον οἶκος Ααρων εὐλογήσατε τὸν κύριον

Bless the Lord, O house of Levi: you that fear the Lord, bless the Lord.

Domus Levi, benedicite Domino; qui timetis Dominum, benedicite Domino.

οἶκος Λευι εὐλογήσατε τὸν κύριον οἱ φοβούμενοι τὸν κύριον εὐλογήσατε τὸν κύριον

Blessed be the Lord out of Sion, who dwelleth in Jerusalem.

Benedictus Dominus ex Sion, qui habitat in Jerusalem.

εὐλογητὸς κύριος ἐκ Σιων ὁ κατοικῶν Ιερουσαλημ
