1 Chronicles 5

Now the sons of Ruben the firstborn of Israel, (for he was his firstborn: but forasmuch as he defiled his father’s bed, his first birthright was given to the sons of Joseph the son of Israel, and he was not accounted for the firstborn.

Filii quoque Ruben primogeniti Israël. (Ipse quippe fuit primogenitus ejus : sed cum violasset thorum patris sui, data sunt primogenita ejus filiis Joseph filii Israël, et non est ille reputatus in primogenitum.

καὶ υἱοὶ Ρουβην πρωτοτόκου Ισραηλ ὅτι οὗτος ὁ πρωτότοκος καὶ ἐν τῷ ἀναβῆναι ἐπὶ τὴν κοίτην τοῦ πατρὸς αὐτοῦ ἔδωκεν εὐλογίαν αὐτοῦ τῷ υἱῷ αὐτοῦ Ιωσηφ υἱῷ Ισραηλ καὶ οὐκ ἐγενεαλογήθη εἰς πρωτοτόκια

But of the race of Juda, who was the strongest among his brethren, came the princes: but the first birthright was accounted to Joseph.)

Porro Judas, qui erat fortissimus inter fratres suos, de stirpe ejus principes germinati sunt : primogenita autem reputata sunt Joseph.)

ὅτι Ιουδας δυνατὸς ἰσχύι καὶ ἐν τοῖς ἀδελφοῖς αὐτοῦ καὶ εἰς ἡγούμενον ἐξ αὐτοῦ καὶ ἡ εὐλογία τοῦ Ιωσηφ

The sons then of Ruben the firstborn of Israel were Enoch, and Phallu, Esron, and Charmi.

Filii ergo Ruben primogeniti Israël : Enoch, et Phallu, Esron, et Carmi.

υἱοὶ Ρουβην πρωτοτόκου Ισραηλ Ενωχ καὶ Φαλλους Αρσων καὶ Χαρμι

The sons of Joel: Samaia his son, Gog his son, Semei his son,

Filii Joël : Samia filius ejus, Gog filius ejus, Semei filius ejus,

υἱοὶ Ιωηλ Σεμεϊ καὶ Βαναια υἱὸς αὐτοῦ καὶ υἱοὶ Γουγ υἱοῦ Σεμεϊ

Micha his son, Reia his son, Baal his son,

Micha filius ejus, Reia filius ejus, Baal filius ejus,

υἱὸς αὐτοῦ Μιχα υἱὸς αὐτοῦ Ρηχα υἱὸς αὐτοῦ Βααλ

Beera his son, whom Thelgathphalnasar king of the Assyrians carried away captive, and he was prince in the tribe of Ruben.

Beera filius ejus, quem captivum duxit Thelgathphalnasar rex Assyriorum, et fuit princeps in tribu Ruben.

υἱὸς αὐτοῦ Βεηρα ὃν μετῴκισεν Θαγλαθφαλνασαρ βασιλεὺς Ασσουρ οὗτος ἄρχων τῶν Ρουβην

And his brethren, and all his kindred, when they were numbered by their families, had for princes Jehiel, and Zacharias.

Fratres autem ejus, et universa cognatio ejus, quando numerabantur per familias suas, habuerunt principes Jehiel, et Zachariam.

καὶ ἀδελφοὶ αὐτοῦ τῇ πατριᾷ αὐτοῦ ἐν τοῖς καταλοχισμοῖς αὐτῶν κατὰ γενέσεις αὐτῶν ὁ ἄρχων Ιωηλ καὶ Ζαχαρια

And Bala the son of Azaz, the son of Samma, the son of Joel, dwelt in Aroer as far as Nebo, and Beelmeon.

Porro Bala filius Azaz filii Samma filii Joël, ipse habitavit in Aroër usque ad Nebo, et Beelmeon.

καὶ Βαλεκ υἱὸς Οζουζ υἱὸς Σαμα υἱὸς Ιωηλ οὗτος κατῴκησεν ἐν Αροηρ καὶ ἐπὶ Ναβαυ καὶ Βεελμαων

And eastward he had his habitation as far as the entrance of the desert, and the river Euphrates. For they possessed a great number of cattle in the land of Galaad.

Contra orientalem quoque plagam habitavit usque ad introitum eremi, et flumen Euphraten. Multum quippe jumentorum numerum possidebant in terra Galaad.

καὶ πρὸς ἀνατολὰς κατῴκησεν ἕως ἐρχομένων τῆς ἐρήμου ἀπὸ τοῦ ποταμοῦ Εὐφράτου ὅτι κτήνη αὐτῶν πολλὰ ἐν γῇ Γαλααδ

And in the days of Saul they fought against the Agarites, and slew them, and dwelt in their tents in their stead, in all the country, that looketh to the east of Galaad.

In diebus autem Saul præliati sunt contra Agareos, et interfecerunt illos, habitaveruntque pro eis in tabernaculis eorum, in omni plaga quæ respicit ad orientem Galaad.

καὶ ἐν ἡμέραις Σαουλ ἐποίησαν πόλεμον πρὸς τοὺς παροίκους καὶ ἔπεσον ἐν χερσὶν αὐτῶν κατοικοῦντες ἐν σκηναῖς ἕως πάντες κατ' ἀνατολὰς τῆς Γαλααδ

And the children of Gad dwelt over against them in the land of Basan, as far as Selcha:

Filii vero Gad e regione eorum habitaverunt in terra Basan usque Selcha:

υἱοὶ Γαδ κατέναντι αὐτῶν κατῴκησαν ἐν τῇ Βασαν ἕως Σελχα

Johel the chief, and Saphan the second: and Janai, and Saphat in Basan.

Joël in capite, et Saphan secundus : Janai autem et Saphat in Basan.

Ιωηλ ὁ πρωτότοκος καὶ Σαφαμ ὁ δεύτερος καὶ Ιανι ὁ γραμματεὺς ἐν Βασαν

And their brethren according to the houses of their kindreds, were Michael and Mosollam, and Sebe, and Jorai, and Jacan, and Zie, and Heber, seven.

Fratres vero eorum secundum domos cognationum suarum, Michaël, et Mosollam, et Sebe, et Jorai, et Jachan, et Zie, et Heber, septem.

καὶ οἱ ἀδελφοὶ αὐτῶν κατ' οἴκους πατριῶν αὐτῶν Μιχαηλ Μοσολλαμ καὶ Σεβεε καὶ Ιωρεε καὶ Ιαχαν καὶ Ζουε καὶ Ωβηδ ἑπτά

These were the sons of Abihail, the son of Huri, the son of Jara, the son of Galaad, the son of Michael, the son of Jesisi, the son of Jeddo, the son of Buz.

Hi filii Abihail, filii Huri, filii Jara, filii Galaad, filii Michaël, filii Jesesi, filii Jeddo, filii Buz.

οὗτοι υἱοὶ Αβιχαιλ υἱοῦ Ουρι υἱοῦ Ιδαι υἱοῦ Γαλααδ υἱοῦ Μιχαηλ υἱοῦ Ισαι υἱοῦ Ιουρι υἱοῦ Ζαβουχαμ

And their brethren the sons of Abdiel, the son of Guni, chief of the house in their families,

Fratres quoque, filii Abdiel filii Guni, princeps domus in familiis suis.

υἱοῦ Αβδιηλ υἱοῦ Γουνι ἄρχων οἴκου πατριῶν

And they dwelt in Galaad, and in Basan and in the towns thereof, and in all the suburbs of Saron, unto the borders.

Et habitaverunt in Galaad, et in Basan, et in viculis ejus, et in cunctis suburbanis Saron, usque ad terminos.

κατῴκουν ἐν Γαλααδ ἐν Βασαν καὶ ἐν ταῖς κώμαις αὐτῶν καὶ πάντα τὰ περίχωρα Σαρων ἕως ἐξόδου

All these were numbered in the days of Joathan king of Juda, and in the days of Jeroboam king of Israel.

Omnes hi numerati sunt in diebus Joathan regis Juda, et in diebus Jeroboam regis Israël.

πάντων ὁ καταλοχισμὸς ἐν ἡμέραις Ιωαθαμ βασιλέως Ιουδα καὶ ἐν ἡμέραις Ιεροβοαμ βασιλέως Ισραηλ

The Sons of Ruben, and of Gad, and of the half tribe of Manasses, fighting men, bearing shields, and swords, and bending the bow, and trained up to battles, four and forty thousand seven hundred and threescore that went out to war.

Filii Ruben, et Gad, et dimidiæ tribus Manasse, viri bellatores, scuta portantes et gladios, et tendentes arcum, eruditique ad prælia, quadraginta quatuor millia et septingenti sexaginta, procedentes ad pugnam.

υἱοὶ Ρουβην καὶ Γαδ καὶ ἥμισυ φυλῆς Μανασση ἐξ υἱῶν δυνάμεως ἄνδρες αἴροντες ἀσπίδας καὶ μάχαιραν καὶ τείνοντες τόξον καὶ δεδιδαγμένοι πόλεμον τεσσαράκοντα καὶ τέσσαρες χιλιάδες καὶ ἑπτακόσιοι καὶ ἑξήκοντα ἐκπορευόμενοι εἰς παράταξιν

They fought against the Agarites: but the Itureans, and Naphis, and Nodab,

Dimicaverunt contra Agareos : Ituræi vero, et Naphis, et Nodab

καὶ ἐποίουν πόλεμον μετὰ τῶν Αγαρηνῶν καὶ Ιτουραίων καὶ Ναφισαίων καὶ Ναδαβαίων

Gave them help. And the Agarites were delivered into their hands, and all that were with them, because they called upon God in the battle: and he heard them, because they had put their faith in him.

præbuerunt eis auxilium. Traditique sunt in manus eorum Agarei, et universi qui fuerant cum eis, quia Deum invocaverunt cum præliarentur : et exaudivit eos, eo quod credidissent in eum.

καὶ κατίσχυσαν ἐπ' αὐτῶν καὶ ἐδόθησαν εἰς χεῖρας αὐτῶν οἱ Αγαραῖοι καὶ πάντα τὰ σκηνώματα αὐτῶν ὅτι πρὸς τὸν θεὸν ἐβόησαν ἐν τῷ πολέμῳ καὶ ἐπήκουσεν αὐτοῖς ὅτι ἤλπισαν ἐπ' αὐτόν

And they took all that they possessed, of camels fifty thousand, and of sheep two hundred and fifty thousand, and of asses two thousand, and of men a hundred thousand souls.

Ceperuntque omnia quæ possederant, camelorum quinquaginta millia, et ovium ducenta quinquaginta millia, et asinos duo millia, et animas hominum centum millia.

καὶ ᾐχμαλώτευσαν τὴν ἀποσκευὴν αὐτῶν καμήλους πεντακισχιλίας καὶ προβάτων διακοσίας πεντήκοντα χιλιάδας ὄνους δισχιλίους καὶ ψυχὰς ἀνδρῶν ἑκατὸν χιλιάδας

And many fell down slain: for it was the battle of the Lord. And they dwelt in their stead till the captivity.

Vulnerati autem multi corruerunt : fuit enim bellum Domini. Habitaveruntque pro eis usque ad transmigrationem.

ὅτι τραυματίαι πολλοὶ ἔπεσον ὅτι παρὰ τοῦ θεοῦ ὁ πόλεμος καὶ κατῴκησαν ἀντ' αὐτῶν ἕως τῆς μετοικεσίας

And the children of the half tribe of Manasses possessed the land, from the borders of Basan unto Baal, Hermon, and Sanir, and mount Hermon, for their number was great.

Filii quoque dimidiæ tribus Manasse possederunt terram a finibus Basan usque Baal, Hermon, et Sanir, et montem Hermon : ingens quippe numerus erat.

καὶ οἱ ἡμίσεις φυλῆς Μανασση κατῴκησαν ἐν τῇ γῇ ἀπὸ Βασαν ἕως Βααλερμων καὶ Σανιρ καὶ ὄρος Αερμων καὶ ἐν τῷ Λιβάνῳ αὐτοὶ ἐπλεονάσθησαν

And these were the heads of the house of their kindred, Epher, and Jesi, and Eliel, and Esriel, and Jeremia, and Odoia, and Jediel, most valiant and powerful men, and famous chiefs in their families.

Et hi fuerunt principes domus cognationis eorum : Epher, et Jesi, et Eliel, et Ezriel, et Jeremia, et Odoia, et Jediel, viri fortissimi et potentes, et nominati duces in familiis suis.

καὶ οὗτοι ἀρχηγοὶ οἴκου πατριῶν αὐτῶν Οφερ καὶ Ισεϊ καὶ Ελιηλ καὶ Εσδριηλ καὶ Ιερμια καὶ Ωδουια καὶ Ιεδιηλ ἄνδρες ἰσχυροὶ δυνάμει ἄνδρες ὀνομαστοί ἄρχοντες τῶν οἴκων πατριῶν αὐτῶν

But they forsook the God of their fathers, and went astray after the gods of the people of the land, whom God destroyed before them.

Reliquerunt autem Deum patrum suorum, et fornicati sunt post deos populorum terræ, quos abstulit Deus coram eis.

καὶ ἠθέτησαν ἐν θεῷ πατέρων αὐτῶν καὶ ἐπόρνευσαν ὀπίσω θεῶν λαῶν τῆς γῆς οὓς ἐξῆρεν ὁ θεὸς ἀπὸ προσώπου αὐτῶν

And the God of Israel stirred up the spirit of Phul king of the Assyrians, and the spirit of Thelgathphalnasar king of Assur: and he carried away Ruben, and Gad, and the half tribe of Manasses, and brought them to Lahela, and to Habor, and to Ara, and to the river of Gozan, unto this day.

Et suscitavit Deus Israël spiritum Phul regis Assyriorum, et spiritum Thelgathphalnasar regis Assur : et transtulit Ruben, et Gad, et dimidiam tribum Manasse, et adduxit eos in Lahela, et in Habor, et Ara, et fluvium Gozan, usque ad diem hanc.

καὶ ἐπήγειρεν ὁ θεὸς Ισραηλ τὸ πνεῦμα Φαλωχ βασιλέως Ασσουρ καὶ τὸ πνεῦμα Θαγλαθφαλνασαρ βασιλέως Ασσουρ καὶ μετῴκισεν τὸν Ρουβην καὶ τὸν Γαδδι καὶ τὸ ἥμισυ φυλῆς Μανασση καὶ ἤγαγεν αὐτοὺς εἰς Χαλαχ καὶ Χαβωρ καὶ ἐπὶ ποταμὸν Γωζαν ἕως τῆς ἡμέρας ταύτης
