St. Winnibald

Life and historical setting
Winnibald, also written Winibald or Winebald, was an eighth-century English missionary, the brother of St. Willibald and St. Walburga, and a kinsman and collaborator of St. Boniface. His formation included years of pilgrimage and monastic life at Rome.
Boniface called him to the German mission and ordained him a priest. Winnibald later founded and governed the double monastery at Heidenheim, where his sister Walburga led the community of women and the Benedictine pattern of prayer, learning, and mission took root.
Poor health limited some of his missionary travel, but his abbacy provided stability and formation for the evangelization of the region. He died at Heidenheim in 761 and was venerated there after death.
