Ordinary Time I
Growing in Discipleship Before Lent
What Is Ordinary Time I?
Ordinary Time I is the first part of Ordinary Time. It begins after the Christmas Season and continues until Lent.
During this time, the Church reflects on the public ministry, teachings, miracles, parables, and call to discipleship given by Jesus Christ.
The word “ordinary” does not mean unimportant. It refers to the ordered numbering of the weeks in the Church calendar.
A Season of Growth
Ordinary Time I teaches Catholics how to follow Christ in daily life before entering the penitential season of Lent.
It is a time to listen to the Gospel, grow in virtue, and prepare the heart for deeper conversion.
Main Themes
- Following Jesus as disciples.
- Listening to the teachings of Christ.
- Growing in virtue and holiness.
- Living the Gospel in ordinary daily life.
- Preparing the heart for Lent.
Living Ordinary Time I
Catholics can live Ordinary Time I by attending Mass faithfully, praying daily, reading the Gospels, serving others, practicing charity, and allowing the teachings of Christ to shape everyday decisions.
This season reminds us that holiness is not only found in extraordinary moments, but also in ordinary faithfulness.
