The argument
Evil has no independent substance and God did not create it, but sinful acts and suffering are real privations with real victims. The Cross is more than a demonstration of ideas: the incarnate Son offers Himself for us.
The opposing position
Christian Science interprets evil as lacking ultimate reality and salvation as liberation from false material belief through spiritual truth.

Is evil only an illusion?
Evil has no positive substance created by God, but the deprivation of a real good is itself real in its victims and moral agents. Calling atrocity or disease unreal does not explain guilt, suffering, or the Cross.

What did Christ accomplish on the Cross?
The incarnate Son freely offered His life in obedient love, bearing our sins and reconciling us to the Father. The Cross objectively acts in history; it is not only a lesson that corrects mistaken consciousness.

If sin is a false belief, why is repentance needed?
Christian repentance addresses actual acts, omissions, relationships, and harms. It includes truth, sorrow, conversion, restitution where possible, and reception of mercy—not simply changing a metaphysical perception.
