Prayer for Healing and Strength

Entrusting illness, treatment, caregivers, and uncertain outcomes to Christ

Start Here

Catholics may confidently ask for healing while surrendering the manner and timing of God’s answer. Prayer accompanies—not replaces—medical care and the sacramental ministry of the Church.

The Prayer

Lord Jesus, healer of body and soul, look with mercy upon me and upon all who are sick. Grant healing according to Your wisdom and give strength for each present duty.

Guide physicians, nurses, counselors, caregivers, and family members. Protect them from error and exhaustion. Give me patience with treatment, courage in uncertainty, and freedom from despair.

Unite suffering to Your Cross, surround the dying with Your peace, and lead us all toward the Resurrection. Amen.

Important Catholic Boundary

Urgent symptoms require urgent medical attention. Catholics who are seriously ill should also contact a parish about Confession, Holy Communion, and the Anointing of the Sick rather than waiting until the final moments.

Care for the Whole Person

Illness can affect body, mood, relationships, work, and prayer. Good care may include medicine, counseling, rest, practical assistance, and sacramental support.

A lack of physical healing is not proof of weak faith or hidden guilt.

For Caregivers

  • Ask clearly what help is needed.
  • Respect the sick person’s dignity and limits.
  • Arrange respite before exhaustion becomes crisis.
  • Pray with the person, not only about the person.
  • Call the parish early for sacramental care.

A Catholic Practice Plan

Create a care list with one medical next step, one practical need, one person to contact, and one prayer intention.
