The poor commonly bear the greatest burdens from pollution, unsafe water, extreme heat, disasters, crop failure, dangerous work, displacement, and weak infrastructure while possessing the fewest resources for adaptation.
Environmental justice asks who receives benefits, who bears risks, who participates in decisions, who has access to information and remedy, and whether communities are sacrificed for the convenience of others.
The Church does not replace the natural sciences or define technical climate models. She teaches the moral duty to seek truth, heed competent evidence, act prudently under uncertainty, protect the vulnerable, and preserve creation for future generations.
Weather is a short-term local condition, while climate concerns long-term patterns across regions and the planet. A cold day does not refute global warming, and no single storm should automatically be attributed entirely to climate change.
The current scientific assessment synthesized by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change concludes that human activity has warmed the atmosphere, ocean, and land and that risks increase with additional warming.
Laudate Deum teaches that the accelerated climate change now occurring has human causes and is a global social issue closely related to the dignity of human life.

Digital technologies also depend upon miners, factory workers, data labelers, content moderators, logistics workers, and communities affected by extraction and electronic waste.
