Sirach 35

1He that keepeth the law, multiplieth offerings.

2It is a wholesome sacrifice to take heed to the commandments, and to depart from all iniquity.

3And to depart from injustice, is to offer a propitiatory sacrifice for injustices, and a begging of pardon for sins.

4He shall return thanks, that offereth fine flour: and he that doth mercy, offereth sacrifice.

5To depart from iniquity is that which pleaseth the Lord, and to depart from injustice, is an entreaty for sins.

6Thou shalt not appear empty in the sight of the Lord.

7For all these things are to be done because of the commandment of God.

8The oblation of the just maketh the altar fat, and is an odour of sweetness in the sight of the most High.

9The sacrifice of the just is acceptable, and the Lord will not forget the memorial thereof.

10Give glory to God with a good heart: and diminish not the firstfruits of thy hands.

11In every gift show a cheerful countenance, and sanctify thy tithes with joy.

12Give to the most High according to what he hath given to thee, and with a good eye do according to the ability of thy hands:

13For the Lord maketh recompense, and will give thee seven times as much.

14Do not offer wicked gifts, for such he will not receive.

15And look not upon an unjust sacrifice, for the Lord is judge, and there is not with him respect of person.

16The Lord will not accept any person against a poor man, and he will hear the prayer of him that is wronged.

17He will not despise the prayers of the fatherless: nor the widow, when she poureth out her complaint.

18Do not the widow’s tears run down the cheek, and her cry against him that causeth them to fall?

19For from the cheek they go up even to heaven, and the Lord that heareth will not be delighted with them.

20He that adoreth God with joy, shall be accepted, and his prayer shall approach even to the clouds.

21The prayer of him that humbleth himself, shall pierce the clouds: and till it come nigh he will not be comforted: and he will not depart till the most High behold.

22And the Lord will not be slack, but will judge for the just, and will do judgment: and the Almighty will not have patience with them, that he may crush their back:

23And he will repay vengeance to the Gentiles, till he have taken away the multitude of the proud, and broken the sceptres of the unjust,

24Till he have rendered to men according to their deeds: and according to the works of Adam, and according to his presumption,

25Till he have judged the cause of his people, and he shall delight the just with his mercy.

26The mercy of God is beautiful in the time of affliction, as a cloud of rain in the time of drought.

1Qui conservat legem multiplicat oblationem.

2Sacrificium salutare est attendere mandatis, et discedere ab omni iniquitate.

3Et propitiationem litare sacrificii super injustitias : et deprecatio pro peccatis, recedere ab injustitia.

4Retribuet gratiam qui offert similaginem : et qui facit misericordiam offert sacrificium.

5Beneplacitum est Domino recedere ab iniquitate : et deprecatio pro peccatis recedere ab injustitia.

6Non apparebis ante conspectum Domini vacuus :

7hæc enim omnia propter mandatum Dei fiunt.

8Oblatio justi impinguat altare, et odor suavitatis est in conspectu Altissimi.

9Sacrificium justi acceptum est, et memoriam ejus non obliviscetur Dominus.

10Bono animo gloriam redde Deo, et non minuas primitias manuum tuarum.

11In omni dato hilarem fac vultum tuum, et in exsultatione sanctifica decimas tuas.

12Da Altissimo secundum datum ejus, et in bono oculo adinventionem facito manuum tuarum,

13quoniam Dominus retribuens est, et septies tantum reddet tibi.

14Noli offerre munera prava, non enim suscipiet illa.

15Et noli inspicere sacrificum injustum, quoniam Dominus judex est, et non est apud illum gloria personæ.

16Non accipiet Dominus personam in pauperem, et deprecationem læsi exaudiet.

17Non despiciet preces pupilli, nec viduam, si effundat loquelam gemitus.

18Nonne lacrimæ viduæ ad maxillam descendunt, et exclamatio ejus super deducentem eas?

19A maxilla enim ascendunt usque ad cælum, et Dominus exauditor non delectabitur in illis.

20Qui adorat Deum in oblectatione suscipietur, et deprecatio illius usque ad nubes propinquabit.

21Oratio humiliantis se nubes penetrabit, et donec propinquet non consolabitur, et non discedet donec Altissimus aspiciat.

22Et Dominus non elongabit : et judicabit justos, et faciet judicium : et Fortissimus non habebit in illis patientiam, ut contribulet dorsum ipsorum :

23et gentibus reddet vindictam, donec tollat plenitudinem superborum, et sceptra iniquorum contribulet :

24donec reddat hominibus secundum actus suos, et secundum opera Adæ, et secundum præsumptionem illius :

25donec judicet judicium plebis suæ, et oblectabit justos misericordia sua.

26Speciosa misericordia Dei in tempore tribulationis, quasi nubes pluviæ in tempore siccitatis.

1ὁ συντηρῶν νόμον πλεονάζει προσφοράς

2θυσιάζων σωτηρίου ὁ προσέχων ἐντολαῖς

4ἀνταποδιδοὺς χάριν προσφέρων σεμίδαλιν καὶ ὁ ποιῶν ἐλεημοσύνην θυσιάζων αἰνέσεως

5εὐδοκία κυρίου ἀποστῆναι ἀπὸ πονηρίας καὶ ἐξιλασμὸς ἀποστῆναι ἀπὸ ἀδικίας

6μὴ ὀφθῇς ἐν προσώπῳ κυρίου κενός

7πάντα γὰρ ταῦτα χάριν ἐντολῆς

8προσφορὰ δικαίου λιπαίνει θυσιαστήριον καὶ ἡ εὐωδία αὐτῆς ἔναντι ὑψίστου

9θυσία ἀνδρὸς δικαίου δεκτή καὶ τὸ μνημόσυνον αὐτῆς οὐκ ἐπιλησθήσεται

10ἐν ἀγαθῷ ὀφθαλμῷ δόξασον τὸν κύριον καὶ μὴ σμικρύνῃς ἀπαρχὴν χειρῶν σου

11ἐν πάσῃ δόσει ἱλάρωσον τὸ πρόσωπόν σου καὶ ἐν εὐφροσύνῃ ἁγίασον δεκάτην

12δὸς ὑψίστῳ κατὰ τὴν δόσιν αὐτοῦ καὶ ἐν ἀγαθῷ ὀφθαλμῷ καθ' εὕρεμα χειρός

13ὅτι κύριος ἀνταποδιδούς ἐστιν καὶ ἑπταπλάσια ἀνταποδώσει σοι

14μὴ δωροκόπει οὐ γὰρ προσδέξεται

15καὶ μὴ ἔπεχε θυσίᾳ ἀδίκῳ ὅτι κύριος κριτής ἐστιν καὶ οὐκ ἔστιν παρ' αὐτῷ δόξα προσώπου

16οὐ λήμψεται πρόσωπον ἐπὶ πτωχοῦ καὶ δέησιν ἠδικημένου εἰσακούσεται

17οὐ μὴ ὑπερίδῃ ἱκετείαν ὀρφανοῦ καὶ χήραν ἐὰν ἐκχέῃ λαλιάν

18οὐχὶ δάκρυα χήρας ἐπὶ σιαγόνα καταβαίνει καὶ ἡ καταβόησις ἐπὶ τῷ καταγαγόντι αὐτά

20θεραπεύων ἐν εὐδοκίᾳ δεχθήσεται καὶ ἡ δέησις αὐτοῦ ἕως νεφελῶν συνάψει

21προσευχὴ ταπεινοῦ νεφέλας διῆλθεν καὶ ἕως συνεγγίσῃ οὐ μὴ παρακληθῇ καὶ οὐ μὴ ἀποστῇ ἕως ἐπισκέψηται ὁ ὕψιστος καὶ κρινεῖ δικαίοις καὶ ποιήσει κρίσιν

22καὶ ὁ κύριος οὐ μὴ βραδύνῃ οὐδὲ μὴ μακροθυμήσῃ ἐπ' αὐτοῖς ἕως ἂν συντρίψῃ ὀσφὺν ἀνελεημόνων

23καὶ τοῖς ἔθνεσιν ἀνταποδώσει ἐκδίκησιν ἕως ἐξάρῃ πλῆθος ὑβριστῶν καὶ σκῆπτρα ἀδίκων συντρίψει

24ἕως ἀνταποδῷ ἀνθρώπῳ κατὰ τὰς πράξεις αὐτοῦ καὶ τὰ ἔργα τῶν ἀνθρώπων κατὰ τὰ ἐνθυμήματα αὐτῶν

25ἕως κρίνῃ τὴν κρίσιν τοῦ λαοῦ αὐτοῦ καὶ εὐφρανεῖ αὐτοὺς ἐν τῷ ἐλέει αὐτοῦ

26ὡραῖον ἔλεος ἐν καιρῷ θλίψεως αὐτοῦ ὡς νεφέλαι ὑετοῦ ἐν καιρῷ ἀβροχίας
