Psalms 43

1Unto the end, for the sons of Core, to give understanding.

2We have heard, O God, with our ears: our fathers have declared to us, The work thou hast wrought in their days, and in the days of old.

3Thy hand destroyed the Gentiles, and thou plantedst them: thou didst afflict the people and cast them out.

4For they got not the possession of the land by their own sword: neither did their own arm save them. But thy right hand and thy arm, and the light of thy countenance: because thou wast pleased with them.

5Thou art thyself my king and my God, who commandest the saving of Jacob.

6Through thee we will push down our enemies with the horn: and through thy name we will despise them that rise up against us.

7For I will not trust in my bow: neither shall my sword save me.

8But thou hast saved us from them that afflict us: and hast put them to shame that hate us.

9In God shall we glory all the day long: and in thy name we will give praise for ever.

10But now thou hast cast us off, and put us to shame: and thou, O God, wilt not go out with our armies.

11Thou hast made us turn our back to our enemies: and they that hated us plundered for themselves.

12Thou hast given us up like sheep to be eaten: thou hast scattered us among the nations.

13Thou hast sold thy people for no price: and there was no reckoning in the exchange of them.

14Thou hast made us a reproach to our neighbours, a scoff and derision to them that are round about us.

15Thou hast made us a byword among the Gentiles: a shaking of the head among the people.

16All the day long my shame is before me: and the confusion of my face hath covered me,

17At the voice of him that reproacheth and detracteth me: at the face of the enemy and persecutor.

18All these things have come upon us, yet we have not forgotten thee: and we have not done wickedly in thy covenant.

19And our heart hath not turned back: neither hast thou turned aside our steps from thy way.

20For thou hast humbled us in the place of affliction: and the shadow of death hath covered us.

21If we have forgotten the name of our God, and if we have spread forth our hands to a strange god:

22Shall not God search out these things: for he knoweth the secrets of the heart. Because for thy sake we are killed all the day long: we are counted as sheep for the slaughter.

23Arise, why sleepest thou, O Lord? arise, and cast us not off to the end.

24Why turnest thou thy face away? and forgettest our want and our trouble?

25For our soul is humbled down to the dust: our belly cleaveth to the earth.

26Arise, O Lord, help us and redeem us for thy name’s sake.

2Deus, auribus nostris audivimus, patres nostri annuntiaverunt nobis, opus quod operatus es in diebus eorum, et in diebus antiquis.

3Manus tua gentes disperdidit, et plantasti eos; afflixisti populos, et expulisti eos.

4Nec enim in gladio suo possederunt terram, et brachium eorum non salvavit eos : sed dextera tua et brachium tuum, et illuminatio vultus tui, quoniam complacuisti in eis.

5Tu es ipse rex meus et Deus meus, qui mandas salutes Jacob.

6In te inimicos nostros ventilabimus cornu, et in nomine tuo spernemus insurgentes in nobis.

7Non enim in arcu meo sperabo, et gladius meus non salvabit me:

8salvasti enim nos de affligentibus nos, et odientes nos confudisti.

9In Deo laudabimur tota die, et in nomine tuo confitebimur in sæculum.

10Nunc autem repulisti et confudisti nos, et non egredieris, Deus, in virtutibus nostris.

11Avertisti nos retrorsum post inimicos nostros, et qui oderunt nos diripiebant sibi.

12Dedisti nos tamquam oves escarum, et in gentibus dispersisti nos.

13Vendidisti populum tuum sine pretio, et non fuit multitudo in commutationibus eorum.

14Posuisti nos opprobrium vicinis nostris; subsannationem et derisum his qui sunt in circuitu nostro.

15Posuisti nos in similitudinem gentibus; commotionem capitis in populis.

16Tota die verecundia mea contra me est, et confusio faciei meæ cooperuit me:

17a voce exprobrantis et obloquentis, a facie inimici et persequentis.

18Hæc omnia venerunt super nos; nec obliti sumus te, et inique non egimus in testamento tuo.

19Et non recessit retro cor nostrum; et declinasti semitas nostras a via tua:

20quoniam humiliasti nos in loco afflictionis, et cooperuit nos umbra mortis.

21Si obliti sumus nomen Dei nostri, et si expandimus manus nostras ad deum alienum,

22nonne Deus requiret ista? ipse enim novit abscondita cordis.

23Quoniam propter te mortificamur tota die; æstimati sumus sicut oves occisionis.

24Exsurge; quare obdormis, Domine? exsurge, et ne repellas in finem.

25Quare faciem tuam avertis? oblivisceris inopiæ nostræ et tribulationis nostræ?

26Quoniam humiliata est in pulvere anima nostra; conglutinatus est in terra venter noster.

27Exsurge, Domine, adjuva nos, et redime nos propter nomen tuum.

1εἰς τὸ τέλος τοῖς υἱοῖς Κορε εἰς σύνεσιν ψαλμός

2ὁ θεός ἐν τοῖς ὠσὶν ἡμῶν ἠκούσαμεν οἱ πατέρες ἡμῶν ἀνήγγειλαν ἡμῖν ἔργον ὃ εἰργάσω ἐν ταῖς ἡμέραις αὐτῶν ἐν ἡμέραις ἀρχαίαις

3ἡ χείρ σου ἔθνη ἐξωλέθρευσεν καὶ κατεφύτευσας αὐτούς ἐκάκωσας λαοὺς καὶ ἐξέβαλες αὐτούς

4οὐ γὰρ ἐν τῇ ῥομφαίᾳ αὐτῶν ἐκληρονόμησαν γῆν καὶ ὁ βραχίων αὐτῶν οὐκ ἔσωσεν αὐτούς ἀλλ' ἡ δεξιά σου καὶ ὁ βραχίων σου καὶ ὁ φωτισμὸς τοῦ προσώπου σου ὅτι εὐδόκησας ἐν αὐτοῖς

5σὺ εἶ αὐτὸς ὁ βασιλεύς μου καὶ ὁ θεός μου ὁ ἐντελλόμενος τὰς σωτηρίας Ιακωβ

6ἐν σοὶ τοὺς ἐχθροὺς ἡμῶν κερατιοῦμεν καὶ ἐν τῷ ὀνόματί σου ἐξουθενώσομεν τοὺς ἐπανιστανομένους ἡμῖν

7οὐ γὰρ ἐπὶ τῷ τόξῳ μου ἐλπιῶ καὶ ἡ ῥομφαία μου οὐ σώσει με

8ἔσωσας γὰρ ἡμᾶς ἐκ τῶν θλιβόντων ἡμᾶς καὶ τοὺς μισοῦντας ἡμᾶς κατῄσχυνας

9ἐν τῷ θεῷ ἐπαινεσθησόμεθα ὅλην τὴν ἡμέραν καὶ ἐν τῷ ὀνόματί σου ἐξομολογησόμεθα εἰς τὸν αἰῶνα διάψαλμα

10νυνὶ δὲ ἀπώσω καὶ κατῄσχυνας ἡμᾶς καὶ οὐκ ἐξελεύσῃ ἐν ταῖς δυνάμεσιν ἡμῶν

11ἀπέστρεψας ἡμᾶς εἰς τὰ ὀπίσω παρὰ τοὺς ἐχθροὺς ἡμῶν καὶ οἱ μισοῦντες ἡμᾶς διήρπαζον ἑαυτοῖς

12ἔδωκας ἡμᾶς ὡς πρόβατα βρώσεως καὶ ἐν τοῖς ἔθνεσιν διέσπειρας ἡμᾶς

13ἀπέδου τὸν λαόν σου ἄνευ τιμῆς καὶ οὐκ ἦν πλῆθος ἐν τοῖς ἀλλάγμασιν αὐτῶν

14ἔθου ἡμᾶς ὄνειδος τοῖς γείτοσιν ἡμῶν μυκτηρισμὸν καὶ καταγέλωτα τοῖς κύκλῳ ἡμῶν

15ἔθου ἡμᾶς εἰς παραβολὴν ἐν τοῖς ἔθνεσιν κίνησιν κεφαλῆς ἐν τοῖς λαοῖς

16ὅλην τὴν ἡμέραν ἡ ἐντροπή μου κατεναντίον μού ἐστιν καὶ ἡ αἰσχύνη τοῦ προσώπου μου ἐκάλυψέν με

17ἀπὸ φωνῆς ὀνειδίζοντος καὶ παραλαλοῦντος ἀπὸ προσώπου ἐχθροῦ καὶ ἐκδιώκοντος

18ταῦτα πάντα ἦλθεν ἐφ' ἡμᾶς καὶ οὐκ ἐπελαθόμεθά σου καὶ οὐκ ἠδικήσαμεν ἐν διαθήκῃ σου

19καὶ οὐκ ἀπέστη εἰς τὰ ὀπίσω ἡ καρδία ἡμῶν καὶ ἐξέκλινας τὰς τρίβους ἡμῶν ἀπὸ τῆς ὁδοῦ σου

20ὅτι ἐταπείνωσας ἡμᾶς ἐν τόπῳ κακώσεως καὶ ἐπεκάλυψεν ἡμᾶς σκιὰ θανάτου

21εἰ ἐπελαθόμεθα τοῦ ὀνόματος τοῦ θεοῦ ἡμῶν καὶ εἰ διεπετάσαμεν χεῖρας ἡμῶν πρὸς θεὸν ἀλλότριον

22οὐχὶ ὁ θεὸς ἐκζητήσει ταῦτα αὐτὸς γὰρ γινώσκει τὰ κρύφια τῆς καρδίας

23ὅτι ἕνεκα σοῦ θανατούμεθα ὅλην τὴν ἡμέραν ἐλογίσθημεν ὡς πρόβατα σφαγῆς

24ἐξεγέρθητι ἵνα τί ὑπνοῖς κύριε ἀνάστηθι καὶ μὴ ἀπώσῃ εἰς τέλος

25ἵνα τί τὸ πρόσωπόν σου ἀποστρέφεις ἐπιλανθάνῃ τῆς πτωχείας ἡμῶν καὶ τῆς θλίψεως ἡμῶν

26ὅτι ἐταπεινώθη εἰς χοῦν ἡ ψυχὴ ἡμῶν ἐκολλήθη εἰς γῆν ἡ γαστὴρ ἡμῶν

27ἀνάστα κύριε βοήθησον ἡμῖν καὶ λύτρωσαι ἡμᾶς ἕνεκεν τοῦ ὀνόματός σου
