2 Chronicles 2

And Solomon determined to build a house to the name of the Lord, and a palace for himself.

Decrevit autem Salomon ædificare domum nomini Domini, et palatium sibi.

καὶ εἶπεν Σαλωμων τοῦ οἰκοδομῆσαι οἶκον τῷ ὀνόματι κυρίου καὶ οἶκον τῇ βασιλείᾳ αὐτοῦ

And he numbered out seventy thousand men to bear burdens, and eighty thousand to hew stones in the mountains, and three thousand six hundred to oversee them.

Et numeravit septuaginta millia virorum portantium humeris, et octoginta millia qui cæderent lapides in montibus, præpositosque eorum tria millia sexcentos.

καὶ συνήγαγεν Σαλωμων ἑβδομήκοντα χιλιάδας ἀνδρῶν καὶ ὀγδοήκοντα χιλιάδας λατόμων ἐν τῷ ὄρει καὶ οἱ ἐπιστάται ἐπ' αὐτῶν τρισχίλιοι ἑξακόσιοι

He sent also to Hiram king of Tyre, saying: As thou didst with David my father, and didst send him cedars, to build him a house, in which he dwelt:

Misit quoque ad Hiram regem Tyri, dicens : Sicut egisti cum David patre meo, et misisti ei ligna cedrina ut ædificaret sibi domum, in qua et habitavit:

καὶ ἀπέστειλεν Σαλωμων πρὸς Χιραμ βασιλέα Τύρου λέγων ὡς ἐποίησας μετὰ τοῦ πατρός μου Δαυιδ καὶ ἀπέστειλας αὐτῷ κέδρους τοῦ οἰκοδομῆσαι ἑαυτῷ οἶκον κατοικῆσαι ἐν αὐτῷ

So do with me that I may build a house to the name of the Lord my God, to dedicate it to burn incense before him, and to perfume with aromatical spices, and for the continual setting forth of bread, and for the holocausts, morning and evening, and on the sabbaths, and on the new moons, and the solemnities of the Lord our God for ever, which are commanded for Israel.

sic fac mecum ut ædificem domum nomini Domini Dei mei, ut consecrem eam ad adolendum incensum coram illo, et fumiganda aromata, et ad propositionem panum sempiternam, et ad holocautomata mane, et vespere, sabbatis quoque, et neomeniis, et solemnitatibus Domini Dei nostri in sempiternum, quæ mandata sunt Israëli.

καὶ ἰδοὺ ἐγὼ ὁ υἱὸς αὐτοῦ οἰκοδομῶ οἶκον τῷ ὀνόματι κυρίου θεοῦ μου ἁγιάσαι αὐτὸν αὐτῷ τοῦ θυμιᾶν ἀπέναντι αὐτοῦ θυμίαμα καὶ πρόθεσιν διὰ παντὸς καὶ τοῦ ἀναφέρειν ὁλοκαυτώματα διὰ παντὸς τὸ πρωὶ καὶ τὸ δείλης καὶ ἐν τοῖς σαββάτοις καὶ ἐν ταῖς νουμηνίαις καὶ ἐν ταῖς ἑορταῖς τοῦ κυρίου θεοῦ ἡμῶν εἰς τὸν αἰῶνα τοῦτο ἐπὶ τὸν Ισραηλ

For the house which I desire to build, is great: for our God is great above all gods.

Domus enim quam ædificare cupio, magna est : magnus est enim Deus noster super omnes deos.

καὶ ὁ οἶκος ὃν ἐγὼ οἰκοδομῶ μέγας ὅτι μέγας ὁ θεὸς ἡμῶν παρὰ πάντας τοὺς θεούς

Who then can be able to build him a worthy house? if heaven, and the heavens of heavens cannot contain him: who am I that I should be able to build him a house? but to this end only, that incense may be burnt before him.

Quis ergo poterit prævalere, ut ædificet ei dignam domum? si cælum, et cæli cælorum, capere eum nequeunt, quantus ego sum, ut possim ædificare ei domum? sed ad hoc tantum, ut adoleatur incensum coram illo.

καὶ τίς ἰσχύσει οἰκοδομῆσαι αὐτῷ οἶκον ὅτι ὁ οὐρανὸς καὶ ὁ οὐρανὸς τοῦ οὐρανοῦ οὐ φέρουσιν αὐτοῦ τὴν δόξαν καὶ τίς ἐγὼ οἰκοδομῶν αὐτῷ οἶκον ὅτι ἀλλ' ἢ τοῦ θυμιᾶν κατέναντι αὐτοῦ

Send me therefore a skilful man, that knoweth how to work in gold, and in silver, in brass, and in iron, in purple, in scarlet and in blue, and that hath skill in engraving, with the artificers, which I have with me in Judea and Jerusalem, whom David my father provided.

Mitte ergo mihi virum eruditum, qui noverit operari in auro, et argento, ære, et ferro, purpura, coccino, et hyacintho : et qui sciat sculpere cælaturas cum his artificibus quos mecum habeo in Judæa, et Jerusalem, quos præparavit David pater meus.

καὶ νῦν ἀπόστειλόν μοι ἄνδρα σοφὸν καὶ εἰδότα τοῦ ποιῆσαι ἐν τῷ χρυσίῳ καὶ ἐν τῷ ἀργυρίῳ καὶ ἐν τῷ χαλκῷ καὶ ἐν τῷ σιδήρῳ καὶ ἐν τῇ πορφύρᾳ καὶ ἐν τῷ κοκκίνῳ καὶ ἐν τῇ ὑακίνθῳ καὶ ἐπιστάμενον γλύψαι γλυφὴν μετὰ τῶν σοφῶν τῶν μετ' ἐμοῦ ἐν Ιουδα καὶ ἐν Ιερουσαλημ ὧν ἡτοίμασεν Δαυιδ ὁ πατήρ μου

Send me also cedars, and fir trees, and pine trees from Libanus: for I know that thy servants are skilful in cutting timber in Libanus, and my servants shall be with thy servants,

Sed et ligna cedrina mitte mihi, et arceuthina, et pinea de Libano : scio enim quod servi tui noverint cædere ligna de Libano : et erunt servi mei cum servis tuis,

καὶ ἀπόστειλόν μοι ξύλα κέδρινα καὶ ἀρκεύθινα καὶ πεύκινα ἐκ τοῦ Λιβάνου ὅτι ἐγὼ οἶδα ὡς οἱ δοῦλοί σου οἴδασιν κόπτειν ξύλα ἐκ τοῦ Λιβάνου καὶ ἰδοὺ οἱ παῖδές σου μετὰ τῶν παίδων μου

To provide me timber in abundance. For the house which I desire to build, is to be exceeding great, and glorious.

ut parentur mihi ligna plurima. Domus enim quam cupio ædificare, magna est nimis, et inclyta.

πορεύσονται ἑτοιμάσαι μοι ξύλα εἰς πλῆθος ὅτι ὁ οἶκος ὃν ἐγὼ οἰκοδομῶ μέγας καὶ ἔνδοξος

And I will give thy servants the workmen that are to cut down the trees, for their food twenty thousand cores of wheat, and as many cores of barley, and twenty thousand measures of wine, and twenty thousand measures of oil.

Præterea operariis qui cæsuri sunt ligna, servis tuis, dabo in cibaria tritici coros viginti millia, et hordei coros totidem, et vini viginti millia metretas, olei quoque sata viginti millia.

καὶ ἰδοὺ τοῖς ἐργαζομένοις τοῖς κόπτουσιν ξύλα εἰς βρώματα δέδωκα σῖτον εἰς δόματα τοῖς παισίν σου κόρων εἴκοσι χιλιάδας καὶ κριθῶν κόρων εἴκοσι χιλιάδας καὶ οἴνου μέτρων εἴκοσι χιλιάδας καὶ ἐλαίου μέτρων εἴκοσι χιλιάδας

And Hiram king of Tyre sent a letter to Solomon, saying: Because the Lord hath loved his people, therefore he hath made thee king over them.

Dixit autem Hiram rex Tyri per litteras quas miserat Salomoni : Quia dilexit Dominus populum suum, idcirco te regnare fecit super eum.

καὶ εἶπεν Χιραμ βασιλεὺς Τύρου ἐν γραφῇ καὶ ἀπέστειλεν πρὸς Σαλωμων ἐν τῷ ἀγαπῆσαι κύριον τὸν λαὸν αὐτοῦ ἔδωκέν σε ἐπ' αὐτοὺς εἰς βασιλέα

And he added, saying: Blessed be the Lord the God of Israel, who made heaven and earth, who hath given to king David a wise and knowing son, endued with understanding and prudence, to build a house to the Lord, and a palace for himself.

Et addidit, dicens : Benedictus Dominus Deus Israël, qui fecit cælum et terram : qui dedit David regi filium sapientem et eruditum et sensatum atque prudentem, ut ædificaret domum Domino, et palatium sibi.

καὶ εἶπεν Χιραμ εὐλογητὸς κύριος ὁ θεὸς Ισραηλ ὃς ἐποίησεν τὸν οὐρανὸν καὶ τὴν γῆν ὃς ἔδωκεν τῷ Δαυιδ τῷ βασιλεῖ υἱὸν σοφὸν καὶ ἐπιστάμενον σύνεσιν καὶ ἐπιστήμην ὃς οἰκοδομήσει οἶκον τῷ κυρίῳ καὶ οἶκον τῇ βασιλείᾳ αὐτοῦ

I therefore have sent thee my father Hiram, a wise and most skilful man,

Misi ergo tibi virum prudentem et scientissimum Hiram patrem meum,

καὶ νῦν ἀπέσταλκά σοι ἄνδρα σοφὸν καὶ εἰδότα σύνεσιν τὸν Χιραμ τὸν πατέρα μου

The son of a woman of the daughters of Dan, whose father was a Tyrian, who knoweth how to work in gold, and in silver, in brass, and in iron, and in marble, and in timber, in purple also, and violet, and silk and scarlet: and who knoweth to grave all sort of graving, and to devise ingeniously all that there may be need of in the work with thy artificers, and with the artificers of my lord David thy father.

filium mulieris de filiabus Dan, cujus pater fuit Tyrius, qui novit operari in auro, et argento, ære, et ferro, et marmore, et lignis, in purpura quoque, et hyacintho, et bysso, et coccino : et qui scit cælare omnem sculpturam, et adinvenire prudenter quodcumque in opere necessarium est cum artificibus tuis, et cum artificibus domini mei David patris tui.

ἡ μήτηρ αὐτοῦ ἀπὸ θυγατέρων Δαν καὶ ὁ πατὴρ αὐτοῦ ἀνὴρ Τύριος εἰδότα ποιῆσαι ἐν χρυσίῳ καὶ ἐν ἀργυρίῳ καὶ ἐν χαλκῷ καὶ ἐν σιδήρῳ ἐν λίθοις καὶ ξύλοις καὶ ὑφαίνειν ἐν τῇ πορφύρᾳ καὶ ἐν τῇ ὑακίνθῳ καὶ ἐν τῇ βύσσῳ καὶ ἐν τῷ κοκκίνῳ καὶ γλύψαι γλυφὰς καὶ διανοεῖσθαι πᾶσαν διανόησιν ὅσα ἂν δῷς αὐτῷ μετὰ τῶν σοφῶν σου καὶ σοφῶν Δαυιδ κυρίου μου πατρός σου

The wheat therefore, and the barley and the oil, and the wine, which thou, my lord, hast promised, send to thy servants.

Triticum ergo, et hordeum, et oleum, et vinum, quæ pollicitus es, domine mi, mitte servis tuis.

καὶ νῦν τὸν σῖτον καὶ τὴν κριθὴν καὶ τὸ ἔλαιον καὶ τὸν οἶνον ἃ εἶπεν ὁ κύριός μου ἀποστειλάτω τοῖς παισὶν αὐτοῦ

And we will cut down as many trees out of Libanus, as thou shalt want, and will convey them in floats by sea to Joppe: and it will be thy part to bring them thence to Jerusalem.

Nos autem cædemus ligna de Libano, quot necessaria habueris, et applicabimus ea ratibus per mare in Joppe : tuum autem erit transferre ea in Jerusalem.

καὶ ἡμεῖς κόψομεν ξύλα ἐκ τοῦ Λιβάνου κατὰ πᾶσαν τὴν χρείαν σου καὶ ἄξομεν αὐτὰ σχεδίαις ἐπὶ θάλασσαν Ιόππης καὶ σὺ ἄξεις αὐτὰ εἰς Ιερουσαλημ

And Solomon numbered all the proselytes in the land of Israel, after the numbering which David his father had made, and they were found a hundred and fifty-three thousand and six hundred.

Numeravit igitur Salomon omnes viros proselytos qui erant in terra Israël, post dinumerationem quam dinumeravit David pater ejus, et inventi sunt centum quinquaginta millia, et tria millia sexcenti.

καὶ συνήγαγεν Σαλωμων πάντας τοὺς ἄνδρας τοὺς προσηλύτους ἐν γῇ Ισραηλ μετὰ τὸν ἀριθμόν ὃν ἠρίθμησεν αὐτοὺς Δαυιδ ὁ πατὴρ αὐτοῦ καὶ εὑρέθησαν ἑκατὸν πεντήκοντα χιλιάδες καὶ τρισχίλιοι ἑξακόσιοι

And he set seventy thousand of them to carry burdens on their shoulders, and eighty thousand to hew stones in the mountains: and three thousand and six hundred to be overseers of the work of the people.

Fecitque ex eis septuaginta millia qui humeris onera portarent, et octoginta millia qui lapides in montibus cæderent : tria autem millia et sexcentos præpositos operum populi.

καὶ ἐποίησεν ἐξ αὐτῶν ἑβδομήκοντα χιλιάδας νωτοφόρων καὶ ὀγδοήκοντα χιλιάδας λατόμων καὶ τρισχιλίους ἑξακοσίους ἐργοδιώκτας ἐπὶ τὸν λαόν
