Joshua 21

1Then the princes of the families of Levi came to Eleazar the priest, and to Joshua the son of Nun, and to the princes of the kindreds of all the tribes of the children of Israel.

2And they spoke to them in Silo in the land of Chanaan, and said: The Lord commanded by the hand of Moses, that cities should be given us to dwell in, and their suburbs to feed our cattle.

3And the children of Israel gave out of their possessions according to the commandment of the Lord, cities and their suburbs.

4And the lot came out for the family of Caath of the children of Aaron the priest out of the tribes of Juda, and of Simeon, and of Benjamin, thirteen cities.

5And to the rest of the children of Caath, that is, to thee Levites, who remained, out of the tribes of Ephraim, and of Dan, and the half tribe of Manasses, ten cities.

6And the lot came out to children of Gerson, that they should take of the tribes of Issachar and of Aser and of Nephtali, and of the half tribe of Manasses in Basan, thirteen cities.

7And to the sons of Merari by their kindreds, of the tribes of Ruben and of Gad and of Zabulon, twelve cities.

8And the children of Israel gave to the Levites the cities and their suburbs, as the Lord commanded by the hand of Moses, giving to every one by lot.

9Of the tribes of the children of Juda and of Simeon Joshua gave cities: whose names are these,

10To the sons of Aaron, of the families of Caath of the race of Levi (for the first lot came out for them)

11The city of Arbe the father of Enac, which is called Hebron, in the mountain of Juda, and the suburbs thereof round about.

12But the fields and the villages thereof he had given to Caleb the son of Jephone for his possession.

13He gave therefore to the children of Aaron the priest, Hebron a city of refuge, and the suburbs thereof, and Lebna with the suburbs thereof,

14And Jether and Estemo,

15And Holon, and Dabir,

16And Ain, and Jeta, and Bethsames, with their suburbs: nine cities out of the two tribes, as hath been said.

17And out of the tribe of the children of Benjamin, Gabaon, and Gabae,

18And Anathoth and Almon, with, their suburbs: four cities.

19All the cities together of the children of Aaron the priest, were thirteen, with their suburbs,

20And to the rest of the families of the children of Caath of the race of Levi was given this possession.

21Of the tribe of Ephraim, Sichem one of the cities of refuge, with the suburbs thereof in mount Ephraim, and Gazer,

22And Cibsaim, and Beth-horon, with their suburbs, four cities.

23And of the tribe of Dan, Eltheco and Gabathon,

24And Aialon and Gethremmon, with their suburbs, four cities.

25And of the half tribe of Manasses, Thanac and Gethremmon, with their suburbs, two cities.

26All the cities were ten, with their suburbs, which were given to the children of Caath, of the inferior degree.

27To the children of Gerson also of the race of Levi out of the half tribe of Manasses, Gaulon in Basan, one of the cities of refuge, and Bosra, with their suburbs, two cities.

28And of the tribe of Issachar, Cesion, and Dabereth,

29And Jaramoth, and Engannim, with their suburbs, four cities.

30And of the tribe of Aser, Masal and Abdon,

31And Helcath, and Rohob, with their suburbs, four cities.

32Of the tribe also of Nephtali, Cedes in Galilee, one of the cities of refuge: and Hammoth Dor, and Carthan, with their suburbs, three cities.

33All the cities of the families of Gerson, were thirteen, with their suburbs.

34And to the children of Merari, Levites of the inferior degree, by their families were given of the tribe of Zabulon, Jecnam and Cartha,

35And Damna and Naalol, four cities with their suburbs.

36Of the tribe of Ruben beyond the Jordan over against Jericho, Bosor in the wilderness, one of the cities of refuge, Misor and Jaser and Jethson and Mephaath, four cities with their suburbs.

37Of the tribe of Gad, Ramoth in Galaad, one of the cities of refuge, and Manaim and Hesebon and Jaser, four cities with their suburbs,

38All the cities of the children of Merari by their families and kindreds, were twelve.

39So all the cities of the Levites within the possession of the children of Israel were forty-eight,

40With their suburbs, each distributed by the families.

41And the Lord God gave to Israel all the land that he had sworn to give to their fathers: and they possessed it, and dwelt in it.

42And he gave them peace from all nations round about: and none of their enemies durst stand against them, but were brought under their dominion.

43Not so much as one word, which he had promised to perform unto them, was made void, but all came to pass.

1Accesseruntque principes familiarum Levi ad Eleazarum sacerdotem, et Josue filium Nun, et ad duces cognationum per singulas tribus filiorum Israël:

5et reliquis filiorum Caath, id est Levitis, qui superfuerant, de tribubus Ephraim, et Dan, et dimidia tribu Manasse, civitates decem.

6Porro filii Gerson egressa est sors, ut acciperent de tribubus Issachar et Aser et Nephthali, dimidiaque tribu Manasse in Basan, civitates numero tredecim.

7Et filiis Merari per cognationes suas de tribubus Ruben et Gad et Zabulon urbes duodecim.

8Dederuntque filii Israël Levitis civitates et suburbana earum, sicut præcepit Dominus per manum Moysi, singulis sorte tribuentes.

9De tribubus filiorum Juda et Simeon dedit Josue civitates, quarum ista sunt nomina,

10filiis Aaron per familias Caath Levitici generis (prima enim sors illis egressa est),

11Cariatharbe patris Enac, quæ vocatur Hebron, in monte Juda, et suburbana ejus per circuitum.

12Agros vero et villas ejus dederat Caleb filio Jephone ad possidendum.

13Dedit ergo filiis Aaron sacerdotis Hebron confugii civitatem, ac suburbana ejus : et Lobnam cum suburbanis suis:

14et Jether, et Esthemo,

15et Holon, et Dabir,

16et Ain, et Jeta, et Bethsames, cum suburbanis suis : civitates novem de tribubus, ut dictum est, duabus.

17De tribu autem filiorum Benjamin, Gabaon, et Gabæ,

18et Anathoth et Almon, cum suburbanis suis : civitates quatuor.

19Omnes simul civitates filiorum Aaron sacerdotis, tredecim, cum suburbanis suis.

20Reliquis vero per familias filiorum Caath Levitici generis, hæc est data possessio.

21De tribu Ephraim urbes confugii, Sichem cum suburbanis suis in monte Ephraim, et Gazer

22et Cibsaim et Beth-horon, cum suburbanis suis, civitates quatuor.

23De tribu quoque Dan, Eltheco et Gabathon,

24et Ajalon et Gethremmon, cum suburbanis suis, civitates quatuor.

25Porro de dimidia tribu Manasse, Thanach et Gethremmon, cum suburbanis suis, civitates duæ.

26Omnes civitates decem, et suburbana earum, datæ sunt filiis Caath inferioris gradus.

27Filiis quoque Gerson Levitici generis dedit de dimidia tribu Manasse confugii civitates, Gaulon in Basan, et Bosram, cum suburbanis suis, civitates duas.

28Porro de tribu Issachar, Cesion, et Dabereth,

29et Jaramoth, et Engannim, cum suburbanis suis, civitates quatuor.

30De tribu autem Aser, Masal et Abdon,

31et Helcath, et Rohob, cum suburbanis suis, civitates quatuor.

32De tribu quoque Nephthali civitates confugii, Cedes in Galilæa, et Hammoth Dor, et Carthan, cum suburbanis suis, civitates tres.

33Omnes urbes familiarum Gerson, tredecim, cum suburbanis suis.

34Filiis autem Merari Levitis inferioris gradus per familias suas data est de tribu Zabulon, Jecnam, et Cartha

35et Damna et Naalol, civitates quatuor cum suburbanis suis.

36De tribu Ruben ultra Jordanem contra Jericho civitates refugii, Bosor in solitudine, Misor et Jaser et Jethson et Mephaath, civitates quatuor cum suburbanis suis.

37De tribu Gad civitates confugii, Ramoth in Galaad, et Manaim et Hesebon et Jazer, civitates quatuor cum suburbanis suis.

38De tribu Gad civitates confugii, Ramoth in Galaad, et Manaim

39et Hesebon et Jazer, civitates quatuor cum suburbanis suis.

40Omnes urbes filiorum Merari per familias et cognationes suas, duodecim.

41Itaque civitates universæ Levitarum in medio possessionis filiorum Israël fuerunt quadraginta octo

42cum suburbanis suis, singulæ per familias distributæ.

43Deditque Dominus Deus Israëli omnem terram, quam traditurum se patribus eorum juraverat : et possederunt illam, atque habitaverunt in ea.

44Dataque est ab eo pax in omnes per circuitum nationes : nullusque eis hostium resistere ausus est, sed cuncti in eorum ditionem redacti sunt.

45Ne unum quidem verbum, quod illis præstiturum se esse promiserat, irritum fuit, sed rebus expleta sunt omnia.

1καὶ προσήλθοσαν οἱ ἀρχιπατριῶται τῶν υἱῶν Λευι πρὸς Ελεαζαρ τὸν ἱερέα καὶ πρὸς Ἰησοῦν τὸν τοῦ Ναυη καὶ πρὸς τοὺς ἀρχιφύλους πατριῶν ἐκ τῶν φυλῶν Ισραηλ

2καὶ εἶπον πρὸς αὐτοὺς ἐν Σηλω ἐν γῇ Χανααν λέγοντες ἐνετείλατο κύριος ἐν χειρὶ Μωυσῆ δοῦναι ἡμῖν πόλεις κατοικεῖν καὶ τὰ περισπόρια τοῖς κτήνεσιν ἡμῶν

3καὶ ἔδωκαν οἱ υἱοὶ Ισραηλ τοῖς Λευίταις ἐν τῷ κατακληρονομεῖν διὰ προστάγματος κυρίου τὰς πόλεις καὶ τὰ περισπόρια αὐτῶν

4καὶ ἐξῆλθεν ὁ κλῆρος τῷ δήμῳ Κααθ καὶ ἐγένετο τοῖς υἱοῖς Ααρων τοῖς ἱερεῦσιν τοῖς Λευίταις ἀπὸ φυλῆς Ιουδα καὶ ἀπὸ φυλῆς Συμεων καὶ ἀπὸ φυλῆς Βενιαμιν κληρωτὶ πόλεις δέκα τρεῖς

5καὶ τοῖς υἱοῖς Κααθ τοῖς καταλελειμμένοις ἐκ τῆς φυλῆς Εφραιμ καὶ ἐκ τῆς φυλῆς Δαν καὶ ἀπὸ τοῦ ἡμίσους φυλῆς Μανασση κληρωτὶ πόλεις δέκα

6καὶ τοῖς υἱοῖς Γεδσων ἀπὸ τῆς φυλῆς Ισσαχαρ καὶ ἀπὸ τῆς φυλῆς Ασηρ καὶ ἀπὸ τῆς φυλῆς Νεφθαλι καὶ ἀπὸ τοῦ ἡμίσους φυλῆς Μανασση ἐν τῷ Βασαν πόλεις δέκα τρεῖς

7καὶ τοῖς υἱοῖς Μεραρι κατὰ δήμους αὐτῶν ἀπὸ φυλῆς Ρουβην καὶ ἀπὸ φυλῆς Γαδ καὶ ἀπὸ φυλῆς Ζαβουλων κληρωτὶ πόλεις δώδεκα

8καὶ ἔδωκαν οἱ υἱοὶ Ισραηλ τοῖς Λευίταις τὰς πόλεις καὶ τὰ περισπόρια αὐτῶν ὃν τρόπον ἐνετείλατο κύριος τῷ Μωυσῇ κληρωτί

9καὶ ἔδωκεν ἡ φυλὴ υἱῶν Ιουδα καὶ ἡ φυλὴ υἱῶν Συμεων καὶ ἀπὸ τῆς φυλῆς υἱῶν Βενιαμιν τὰς πόλεις καὶ ἐπεκλήθησαν

10τοῖς υἱοῖς Ααρων ἀπὸ τοῦ δήμου τοῦ Κααθ τῶν υἱῶν Λευι ὅτι τούτοις ἐγενήθη ὁ κλῆρος

11καὶ ἔδωκεν αὐτοῖς τὴν Καριαθαρβοκ μητρόπολιν τῶν Ενακ αὕτη ἐστὶν Χεβρων ἐν τῷ ὄρει Ιουδα τὰ δὲ περισπόρια κύκλῳ αὐτῆς

12καὶ τοὺς ἀγροὺς τῆς πόλεως καὶ τὰς κώμας αὐτῆς ἔδωκεν Ἰησοῦς τοῖς υἱοῖς Χαλεβ υἱοῦ Ιεφοννη ἐν κατασχέσει

13καὶ τοῖς υἱοῖς Ααρων τὴν πόλιν φυγαδευτήριον τῷ φονεύσαντι τὴν Χεβρων καὶ τὰ ἀφωρισμένα τὰ σὺν αὐτῇ καὶ τὴν Λεμνα καὶ τὰ ἀφωρισμένα τὰ πρὸς αὐτῇ

14καὶ τὴν Αιλωμ καὶ τὰ ἀφωρισμένα αὐτῇ καὶ τὴν Τεμα καὶ τὰ ἀφωρισμένα αὐτῇ

15καὶ τὴν Γελλα καὶ τὰ ἀφωρισμένα αὐτῇ καὶ τὴν Δαβιρ καὶ τὰ ἀφωρισμένα αὐτῇ

16καὶ Ασα καὶ τὰ ἀφωρισμένα αὐτῇ καὶ Τανυ καὶ τὰ ἀφωρισμένα αὐτῇ καὶ Βαιθσαμυς καὶ τὰ ἀφωρισμένα αὐτῇ πόλεις ἐννέα παρὰ τῶν δύο φυλῶν τούτων

17καὶ παρὰ τῆς φυλῆς Βενιαμιν τὴν Γαβαων καὶ τὰ ἀφωρισμένα αὐτῇ καὶ Γαθεθ καὶ τὰ ἀφωρισμένα αὐτῇ

18καὶ Αναθωθ καὶ τὰ ἀφωρισμένα αὐτῇ καὶ Γαμαλα καὶ τὰ ἀφωρισμένα αὐτῇ πόλεις τέσσαρες

19πᾶσαι αἱ πόλεις υἱῶν Ααρων τῶν ἱερέων δέκα τρεῖς

20καὶ τοῖς δήμοις υἱοῖς Κααθ τοῖς Λευίταις τοῖς καταλελειμμένοις ἀπὸ τῶν υἱῶν Κααθ καὶ ἐγενήθη πόλις τῶν ὁρίων αὐτῶν ἀπὸ φυλῆς Εφραιμ

21καὶ ἔδωκαν αὐτοῖς τὴν πόλιν τοῦ φυγαδευτηρίου τὴν τοῦ φονεύσαντος τὴν Συχεμ καὶ τὰ ἀφωρισμένα αὐτῇ καὶ Γαζαρα καὶ τὰ πρὸς αὐτὴν καὶ τὰ ἀφωρισμένα αὐτῇ

22καὶ τὴν Καβσαϊμ καὶ τὰ ἀφωρισμένα τὰ πρὸς αὐτῇ καὶ τὴν ἄνω Βαιθωρων καὶ τὰ ἀφωρισμένα αὐτῇ πόλεις τέσσαρες

23καὶ ἐκ τῆς φυλῆς Δαν τὴν Ελκωθαιμ καὶ τὰ ἀφωρισμένα αὐτῇ καὶ τὴν Γεθεδαν καὶ τὰ ἀφωρισμένα αὐτῇ

24καὶ Αιλων καὶ τὰ ἀφωρισμένα αὐτῇ καὶ Γεθερεμμων καὶ τὰ ἀφωρισμένα αὐτῇ πόλεις τέσσαρες

25καὶ ἀπὸ τοῦ ἡμίσους φυλῆς Μανασση τὴν Ταναχ καὶ τὰ ἀφωρισμένα αὐτῇ καὶ τὴν Ιεβαθα καὶ τὰ ἀφωρισμένα αὐτῇ πόλεις δύο

26πᾶσαι πόλεις δέκα καὶ τὰ ἀφωρισμένα τὰ πρὸς αὐταῖς τοῖς δήμοις υἱῶν Κααθ τοῖς ὑπολελειμμένοις

27καὶ τοῖς υἱοῖς Γεδσων τοῖς Λευίταις ἐκ τοῦ ἡμίσους φυλῆς Μανασση τὰς πόλεις τὰς ἀφωρισμένας τοῖς φονεύσασι τὴν Γαυλων ἐν τῇ Βασανίτιδι καὶ τὰ ἀφωρισμένα αὐτῇ καὶ τὴν Βοσοραν καὶ τὰ ἀφωρισμένα αὐτῇ πόλεις δύο

28καὶ ἐκ τῆς φυλῆς Ισσαχαρ τὴν Κισων καὶ τὰ ἀφωρισμένα αὐτῇ καὶ Δεββα καὶ τὰ ἀφωρισμένα αὐτῇ

29καὶ τὴν Ρεμμαθ καὶ τὰ ἀφωρισμένα αὐτῇ καὶ Πηγὴν γραμμάτων καὶ τὰ ἀφωρισμένα αὐτῇ πόλεις τέσσαρες

30καὶ ἐκ τῆς φυλῆς Ασηρ τὴν Βασελλαν καὶ τὰ ἀφωρισμένα αὐτῇ καὶ Δαββων καὶ τὰ ἀφωρισμένα αὐτῇ

31καὶ Χελκατ καὶ τὰ ἀφωρισμένα αὐτῇ καὶ Ρααβ καὶ τὰ ἀφωρισμένα αὐτῇ πόλεις τέσσαρες

32καὶ ἐκ τῆς φυλῆς Νεφθαλι τὴν πόλιν τὴν ἀφωρισμένην τῷ φονεύσαντι τὴν Καδες ἐν τῇ Γαλιλαίᾳ καὶ τὰ ἀφωρισμένα αὐτῇ καὶ τὴν Εμμαθ καὶ τὰ ἀφωρισμένα αὐτῇ καὶ Θεμμων καὶ τὰ ἀφωρισμένα αὐτῇ πόλεις τρεῖς

33πᾶσαι αἱ πόλεις τοῦ Γεδσων κατὰ δήμους αὐτῶν πόλεις δέκα τρεῖς

34καὶ τῷ δήμῳ υἱῶν Μεραρι τοῖς Λευίταις τοῖς λοιποῖς ἐκ τῆς φυλῆς υἱῶν Ζαβουλων τὴν Μααν καὶ τὰ περισπόρια αὐτῆς καὶ τὴν Καδης καὶ τὰ περισπόρια αὐτῆς

35καὶ Δεμνα καὶ τὰ περισπόρια αὐτῆς καὶ Σελλα καὶ τὰ περισπόρια αὐτῆς πόλεις τέσσαρες

36καὶ πέραν τοῦ Ιορδάνου τοῦ κατὰ Ιεριχω ἐκ τῆς φυλῆς Ρουβην τὴν πόλιν τὸ φυγαδευτήριον τοῦ φονεύσαντος τὴν Βοσορ ἐν τῇ ἐρήμῳ τῇ Μισωρ καὶ τὰ περισπόρια αὐτῆς καὶ τὴν Ιαζηρ καὶ τὰ περισπόρια αὐτῆς

37καὶ τὴν Δεκμων καὶ τὰ περισπόρια αὐτῆς καὶ τὴν Μαφα καὶ τὰ περισπόρια αὐτῆς πόλεις τέσσαρες

38καὶ ἀπὸ τῆς φυλῆς Γαδ τὴν πόλιν τὸ φυγαδευτήριον τοῦ φονεύσαντος τὴν Ραμωθ ἐν τῇ Γαλααδ καὶ τὰ περισπόρια αὐτῆς καὶ τὴν Καμιν καὶ τὰ περισπόρια αὐτῆς

39καὶ τὴν Εσεβων καὶ τὰ περισπόρια αὐτῆς καὶ τὴν Ιαζηρ καὶ τὰ περισπόρια αὐτῆς αἱ πᾶσαι πόλεις τέσσαρες

40πᾶσαι πόλεις τοῖς υἱοῖς Μεραρι κατὰ δήμους αὐτῶν τῶν καταλελειμμένων ἀπὸ τῆς φυλῆς Λευι καὶ ἐγενήθη τὰ ὅρια πόλεις δέκα δύο

41πᾶσαι αἱ πόλεις τῶν Λευιτῶν ἐν μέσῳ κατασχέσεως υἱῶν Ισραηλ τεσσαράκοντα ὀκτὼ πόλεις καὶ τὰ περισπόρια αὐτῶν

42κύκλῳ τῶν πόλεων τούτων πόλις καὶ τὰ περισπόρια κύκλῳ τῆς πόλεως πάσαις ταῖς πόλεσιν ταύταις καὶ συνετέλεσεν Ἰησοῦς διαμερίσας τὴν γῆν ἐν τοῖς ὁρίοις αὐτῶν καὶ ἔδωκαν οἱ υἱοὶ Ισραηλ μερίδα τῷ Ἰησοῖ κατὰ πρόσταγμα κυρίου ἔδωκαν αὐτῷ τὴν πόλιν ἣν ᾐτήσατο τὴν Θαμνασαραχ ἔδωκαν αὐτῷ ἐν τῷ ὄρει Εφραιμ καὶ ᾠκοδόμησεν Ἰησοῦς τὴν πόλιν καὶ ᾤκησεν ἐν αὐτῇ καὶ ἔλαβεν Ἰησοῦς τὰς μαχαίρας τὰς πετρίνας ἐν αἷς περιέτεμεν τοὺς υἱοὺς Ισραηλ τοὺς γενομένους ἐν τῇ ὁδῷ ἐν τῇ ἐρήμῳ καὶ ἔθηκεν αὐτὰς ἐν Θαμνασαραχ

43καὶ ἔδωκεν κύριος τῷ Ισραηλ πᾶσαν τὴν γῆν ἣν ὤμοσεν δοῦναι τοῖς πατράσιν αὐτῶν καὶ κατεκληρονόμησαν αὐτὴν καὶ κατῴκησαν ἐν αὐτῇ

44καὶ κατέπαυσεν αὐτοὺς κύριος κυκλόθεν καθότι ὤμοσεν τοῖς πατράσιν αὐτῶν οὐκ ἀνέστη οὐθεὶς κατενώπιον αὐτῶν ἀπὸ πάντων τῶν ἐχθρῶν αὐτῶν πάντας τοὺς ἐχθροὺς αὐτῶν παρέδωκεν κύριος εἰς τὰς χεῖρας αὐτῶν

45οὐ διέπεσεν ἀπὸ πάντων τῶν ῥημάτων τῶν καλῶν ὧν ἐλάλησεν κύριος τοῖς υἱοῖς Ισραηλ πάντα παρεγένετο
