In These Three Hearts, I Place My Trust
The Sacred Heart of Jesus, the Immaculate Heart of Mary, and the Most Chaste Heart of St. Joseph.
Each year in June, the Church invites the faithful to contemplate three hearts united in one divine mission: the Sacred Heart of Jesus, the Immaculate Heart of Mary, and the Most Chaste Heart of St. Joseph.
These three hearts are not merely symbols; they reveal the interior lives of the Holy Family and teach us how to love God with complete trust, purity, and self-giving devotion.
The image beautifully captures this spiritual reality with the words: “In These Three Hearts, I Place My Trust.”
It is a reminder that God has given us a heavenly family whose hearts are perfectly united in the work of our salvation.
The Sacred Heart of Jesus
The Sacred Heart of Jesus stands at the center because Christ is the source of all grace and holiness.
Crowned with thorns, pierced for our sins, and burning with divine love, His Heart reveals the depth of God’s mercy toward humanity.
Come to me, all you that labour, and are burdened, and I will refresh you. — Matthew 11:28
The Sacred Heart reminds us that Jesus does not love us from a distance.
He entered our suffering, carried our sins, and continues to pour out His mercy through the sacraments, especially the Holy Eucharist.
Pope Pius XII wrote in Haurietis Aquas that devotion to the Sacred Heart draws us into the very love with which Christ loves His Father and all humanity.
To entrust ourselves to the Sacred Heart is to place our confidence in the infinite mercy of God.
The Immaculate Heart of Mary
Beside the Heart of Jesus stands the Immaculate Heart of His Blessed Mother.
Traditionally depicted surrounded by roses and pierced by a sword, Mary’s Heart represents her perfect love for God and her compassionate participation in the sufferings of her Son.
And thy own soul a sword shall pierce. — Luke 2:35
From the moment of her Immaculate Conception, Mary was preserved from all stain of original sin.
Her heart was entirely devoted to God’s will. Every beat of her heart echoed her fiat:
Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it done to me according to thy word. — Luke 1:38
The Immaculate Heart teaches us obedience, humility, purity, and unwavering trust.
As the Mother of the Church, she continually leads souls to her Son, repeating the words spoken at Cana:
Do whatever he shall say to you. — John 2:5
To entrust ourselves to Mary’s Heart is to allow the Mother of God to form us into faithful disciples of Jesus.
The Most Chaste Heart of St. Joseph
The third heart is that of St. Joseph, the guardian of the Redeemer and spouse of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
Though Scripture records no spoken words of Joseph, his actions proclaim extraordinary faith, courage, and obedience.
His heart is adorned with lilies, symbols of purity, and is often depicted with a carpenter’s tool or staff, representing his role as protector and provider.
St. Joseph’s greatness lies not in public acclaim but in hidden holiness.
He faithfully accepted God’s plan, protected Mary and Jesus, and labored quietly for the Holy Family.
Pope Leo XIII described Joseph as the vigilant guardian of the divine household, while Pope Pius IX proclaimed him Patron of the Universal Church.
The Most Chaste Heart of St. Joseph teaches us courage in times of uncertainty, purity of intention, fidelity to our vocation, humble service, and trust in God’s providence.
To entrust ourselves to Joseph’s heart is to place ourselves under the protection of the one whom God entrusted with His greatest earthly treasures: Jesus and Mary.
Three Hearts, One Mission
Though distinct, these three hearts are inseparably united.
The Sacred Heart loves and redeems.
The Immaculate Heart receives and reflects that love perfectly.
The Most Chaste Heart protects and serves that love faithfully.
Together they reveal the beauty of family life ordered toward God.
In a world often marked by division, selfishness, and uncertainty, the Holy Family offers a model of unity, sacrifice, and holiness.
The saints have long recognized the power of devotion to these hearts.
Through Jesus we receive mercy. Through Mary we receive maternal guidance. Through Joseph we receive paternal protection.
A Prayer of Entrustment
Sacred Heart of Jesus, have mercy on us.
Immaculate Heart of Mary, pray for us.
Most Chaste Heart of St. Joseph, protect us.
O Jesus, Mary, and Joseph, I place my life, my family, my work, my joys, and my sufferings into your holy care.
Draw me ever closer to God, strengthen me in faith, preserve me in purity, and lead me safely to eternal life.
May the Three Hearts reign in our homes, our parishes, and our hearts, now and forever.
Sacred Heart of Jesus, I trust in You.
Immaculate Heart of Mary, pray for us.
Most Chaste Heart of St. Joseph, protect us. Amen.
