Day 2 — Wake Up from Spiritual Sleep
The Prologue — Rule of St. Benedict Series
Wake Up from Spiritual Sleep
Wake up.
That is the urgent cry of Scripture and the powerful challenge of Saint Benedict of Nursia.
The spiritual life is not a time for drifting or spiritual sleep. It is a call to rise, to listen, and to walk in the light of God before the darkness overtakes us.
Saint Benedict echoes the words of Saint Paul: “Now is the time to awake from sleep.”
He is not speaking merely about physical rest, but about the deeper sleep of the soul—when we become distracted, complacent, or indifferent to God.
Benedict urges us to open our eyes to the divine light.
This is the light of Christ, who enlightens every heart and reveals the path to eternal life.
Then he says, “Today, if you hear His voice, do not harden your hearts.”
Not tomorrow. Not when life becomes easier. Today.
God speaks every day through Sacred Scripture, through the Church, through prayer, and through the quiet movements of grace within our hearts.
The question is whether we are truly listening.
Jesus Himself says, “Whoever has ears to hear, let him hear what the Spirit says.”
And what does the Lord say?
“Come, my children. Listen to Me. I will teach you the fear of the Lord.”
This holy fear is not terror. It is reverence, awe, and a sincere desire never to be separated from the One who loves us.
Saint Benedict ends with a powerful invitation:
“Run while you still have the light of life.”
Life is brief. Time is a gift. Grace is being offered now.
The opportunity to repent, to pray, and to seek God will not last forever.
His message is clear:
Wake up from spiritual sleep.
Listen to the voice of God today.
Walk in the light of Christ.
And run toward the Lord with all your heart—before the night falls.
God is searching for willing hearts.
In the midst of the crowd, the Lord asks a profound question:
“Who wants life? Who longs to see truly good days?”
